The Craigslist ad says:

“1 Bedroom English Basement Apartment in a corner rowhouse with great light, lots of windows in every room. 1 block from the U Street Metro and near all the U Street and 14th Street shops, restaurants and clubs.

It has access to a patio, a full kitchen and a washer/dryer. All utilities included. Sorry, no pets.”

Normally I’m not a fan of basement apartments but this one actually does look like it gets good light. Does $1500 for this location sound reasonable?

  • At that location, with w/d, a patio and all utilities included, I’d say it’s a good deal as long as it is not disgusting or tiny.

  • That’s…that’s not bad at all.

  • From the picture it looks like maybe it has carpet, which for me would be a deal-breaker in a basement. It’s also been on craigslist for at least a week.

  • Is there some limit to the number of pics Craigslist allows you to upload. I know there is an open house and all but in 2010, can it be that hard to take a few more digital pics of say, the BEDROOM and BATHROOM?

  • I used to live in a basement apt 4 doors down from this place and paid $1350. You can’t beat the location, the owners are really pleasant (way more so than my former landlords, actually), and there seem to be some windows. I think it’s a good deal.

  • We looked at this place last weekend. Good location, decent condition inside, good price, ok landlord. Major flaw is that it’s essentially two octogonal rooms, that’s it. Was not doable for a couple, but perhaps ok for 1 person.

  • Cheap for the location. Does it flood? I mean, what’s wrong with it for it being such a reasonable deal?

  • I’m wondering if this place would have rented quicker if they had jacked up the rent about $100 or $150. It seems like when you see a decent looking place in a decent location for a reasonable price, red flags go up in your mind. I think that says a lot about the rental market in this town.
