You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this week?

Happy New Year/Shana Tova to my fellow members of the tribe. (Sorry for the delay in email responses yesterday.)

  • Rant: The Nationals parting ways with Adam Dunn (As per Boswell @ WaPo)

Rave: Sanphan Thai on Penn. Ave, SE. Yellow curry w/ beef was great.

    • Rant: (After looking up Sanphan Thai and reading the reviews) People who use the word “greasy” to describe foods.

  • Revels: had a great vacation, being back at work is nice too (I really like my job, especially after talking with a coworker experiencing drama with her supervisor), and am looking forward to the weekend: jazz in the sculpture garden, nationals fireworks, martial arts, farmers’ market, and a tour of the West Wing with a friend who works there.

    Rants: none! life is good!

  • Rave: My contract position is being insourced. I applied for the federal position and received a job offer today (comes along with a significant raise).

Rave: Much needed girls night out tonight. Keep the margaritas coming.

Rant: Beginning to believe the old addage – guys and gals can’t “just be friends”.

Rant: friend coming into town who thinks its totally fine to tell me last minute (after I asked, BTW) that she wants to stay with me. Boo.

  • Rave: I don’t need surgery on my broken ankle! I just have to wear an air cast for a month, then a little brace after that. Yeehaw! To celebrate, I’m limping to tonight’s Nats game in the beautiful weather.

    Rant: I despise walking slowly.

  • Rave/Rant: moving back to Philly! The rave part is my bf asked me to move in with him and I get to move back to Philly… The rant part is I have to leave my job that I absolutely love. And the people. I seriously don’t think I’m gonna find people this awesome anywhere else.

We decided I would move there, because I will have a much easier time finding a job there than he would here, and it’s freakin cheaper, and both our families are up there.

PoPville, I will miss you all! You’ve kept me sane and stuck up for me (Mal) when I needed it.

Dan, I loveee PoP – keep up the awesome work, and I’ll be sure to check back in on occasion.

    • I’m envious– Philly is so much better than DC, except for the job market (at least in my case). Someday I’ll move back there.

      • You’re an engineer? As am I! And a girl! Haha… e-mail me at mavanyo at gmail dot com – I know of a few places that are or might be hiring right now… All of my friends who are engineers haven’t had a problem finding jobs up there (I agree on the so much better part, but I also went to college there so I’m biased)

    • I heard it’s always sunny there.

    • Prince Of Petworth

Congrats Mal, I hope there is much happiness and success for you in Philly. I’ve heard great things. You will be missed!

    • Jealous! I would love to figure out a way to get back to Philly. Not that I don’t love DC, but there’s just something about my old hometown. Maybe because it’s the first place _I_ picked, you know? My parents picked my childhood home, scholarship requirements picked my college town, and when it was my turn to chose, I picked Philly. Never regretted it.

      Best wishes.
