Nice Brookland/Edgwood Mural and Metropolitan Branch Trail

These murals are located near Franklin St, NE and a new section of the MBT trail.

The Metropolitan Branch Trail is looking great:

Their Web site says:

“The Metropolitan Branch Trail (MBT) is an 8-mile trail that runs from Union Station in the District of Columbia to Silver Spring in Maryland. Following the Metropolitan Branch Line of the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad, the trail passes through numerous vibrant and historic neighborhoods as well as connecting to the National Mall. The MBT is an important transportation route providing connections to homes, work and play as well as access to seven Metro stations. Current plans include connections to the area’s trail network such as the Capital Crescent Trail, Anacostia Trails System, and integration into the East Coast Greenway.”

You can see a full map of the trail here.

It is!! I rode it the other week! It was a really nice trail. It had a very “industrious” feel while still being a typical bike trail. And the murals all along the trail are beautiful. Those are only a few examples.

I really like it as an “urban” bicycle trail.

It’s a great trail. It’s soon to be shut down by Mayor Gray.

Do you really think Vince Gray is going to “Shut Down” Bike trails. Come on, we know how this works, someone knew gets elected and much doesn’t change.

That’s much nicer than the gang tags I see on the Northwest Branch and Sligo Creek trails.

can you run along this trail or is it just for bikes?

  • Maire

I love the trail but it is kind of unsettling as a woman to climb over the 4-5 men who seem to always be hanging out or sleeping on the steps that go up to the trail at the 2nd & L (or M?) street entrance.

A related question (sorry) — For those who use the trail to walk or run, are there hours that you feel particularly safe or unsafe? (I’m a 30-ish woman who would be jogging not particularly quickly along the trail.)

    Thanks!
