Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

Photo by PoPville flickr user AWard Tour

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this week?

I’ll start with a bit of rave tease. I had my best meal at a new restaurant in DC last night. I’ll post as a judging restaurants next week but it was awesome!

Rant: At 1 pm today I will no longer be able to use the internet at work. Good-bye online world!

  • Rant: I watched “The Real Housewives of DC”

Rant: Should have cast Carol Schwartz.

  • Rave: Leaving work early today and I have extra cash in my wallet (got paid for a gig last night.) I think I’m going to treat myself to an early dinner at Matchbox.

Rant: Need to mow the lawn.

  • was somebody looking at porn or something? online gambling?

Emmaleigh504, anything you want to confess to us?

Rant: Who am I gonna discuss gumbo and Marc Morial and potholes with?

    • sorry, that was meant as a reply to Emmaleigh504

“excessive internet usage”. porn and gambling are automatic firing offenses unless you need it to do you job. Yes I know at least one lucky soul who gets to visit porn and gambling sites for their job.

  • Need help, y’all:
My office is moving tomorrow, and we have a lot of stuff, especially shelves (like wood/pressboard standalone shelves) that we would like to donate to the schools. Might be a few printers and other tech items, too.
There was a post on here a while ago about someone looking to collect donations for the schools. Does anyone know how I can get in touch with that person?
The stuff would have to be picked up, downtown, tomorrow.

  • Rant: there has been a hole in my sidewalk for over 5 months. I have called 311 4 times and all I have to show for it is a case number.

Email Muriel’s office, and the Ward 4 (oh, actually, I guess you would be in Ward one)….

OK, email Jim Graham’s office and the Ward 1 Constituent Services Representative in Adrian’s office.

  • Rant: terrified that I’m house poor (just bought a few weeks ago)
    Rave: week-long beach vacation tomorrow!
Undecided: will I be able to enjoy the beach with the anxiety?

    • Relax. Whenever I experience similar anxiety, I just reassure myself that I can always get a roommate if needed. And don’t buy new furniture, curtains etc. Either make it or Craig’s list it. It will give you something to do while you cannot afford to go out for a while. Enjoy the beach. I will be refurbishing some furniture ;0)

    • As Lady said, don’t go and furnish your place at once. My Husband and I shop sales, Craigslist, and auctions for stores that are closing (that’s how the lightbulbs hanging from our ceiling are miraculously turning into light fixtures, one by one). Have friends come over and have everyone bring wine. All of our friends are just as poor as we are, so we’re doing more in-home entertaining. You’ll get used to the feeling, and having less fun-money.

  • Rant: I got caught riding my bike in the rain yesterday. Completely soaked and nearly died since my cheapo brakes suck when wet.

Rant: Someone compromised my debit card and charged $500 worth of stuff

Rave: It’s Friday and going to a concert tomorrow!

  • Rant: Col Heights Wash Sports Club! Terrible. 7 broken treadmills 5 of which were without “out of order signs”

Rave: I get to drink Johnny Walker Blue, Gold, & Green label tonight!!! wahoo! (10 of us pooled $$$ to do a tasting)

    • double-plus on the machines at CH WSC! they suck! not to mention they are stained with yesterday’s dried sweat at 5:30am! nasty!

      • What’s the club’s response to that? I trust you brought it to someone’s attn. I’m thinking of joining, but this sounds discouraging.

        • I pointed it out to the front desk and they said they would clean it up. It still happens, though, because I notice it all the time.
I also filled out an online comment form (believe it or not, they don’t offer any for members to fill out at the desk!), but nobody ever responded. It goes to the national office, and frankly, what do they give a sh-t about some treadmills in their DC location as long as they’re filled over-capacity and getting all those fat dues checks.

Very poor customer service. I hope they’re reading this… doubt it.

    • Not to mention the fact that some B running on the machine next to me this morning somehow miraculously had the remote for the big TV and changed the channel from ESPN to FOX news. Grrrrrr, I was watching Sportscenter.

  • Rant: First date this weekend cancelled.

    Rave: Friends always come through!

  • (Serious) Rants: Out-of-control wildfires, Failed attempts at sarcasm/humor
Rave: Surveyed for a DC political poll

    • “Failed attempts at sarcasm/humor”

talking about the ‘kids reading this blog’ comment? I got it and thought it was funny! IntangibleArts is sometimes humorless and too literal.

  • For sarcasm so dry it chafes, choosy fertility clinics insist on Intangible Arts!

  • rave: signed a lease for a new apartment yesterday! no more roommates — other than the two furry, meowing ones coming with me 🙂
rant: just when I’m finally dating someone and get a place of my own, the guy breaks up with me. figures.

Rave: Survived my first 1/2 day without the internet at work.
Rave: Wasn’t any more productive than if I could go to my favorite sites.
Rant: I can still go online for work purposes.
