Judging Restaurants – Flippin’ Pizza

Flippin’ Pizza is located at 1745 Connecticut Avenue, NW. They’ve been open for over a month now so I thought I’d check if anyone has tried them out yet. If so, how do they rank compared to other places around town? Are they more of a slice place or a proper pie place?

  • I was just here last night! The slices are good (especially by D.C. standards) and it’s definitely reasonably priced ($5 for two slices and a drink). It’s nothing to write home about, but I’d recommend it for a quick bit to eat if you’re in the area.

  • I got a slice here last weekend for the first time. The prices are good and the pizzas are very tasty. More importantly, it’s one of the few places in the District where you can buy just a slice that’s not jumbo slice. We have lots of good “fancy” pizza places, so this is a nice addition.

  • I’m still angry over the Washingtonian Best Pizza in DC Poll that Flippin Pizza hijacked by offering deals to their customers in California if they would vote. Of course they use that Poll on their flyer now.
I know its petty but I think i will be avoiding this place.

  • Washingtonian is a joke.. I think they voted einstein bagels #1 one year..Yelp seems to be the only real measuring stick at the moment.

  • Had it at the Falls Church location…I guess it’s “okay” if you’re ravenous for pizza and any kind will do. If what Chris says is true about the Washingtonian poll, I’d not be so likely to go either.

  • Not implying Chris isn’t truthful!! I just hadn’t heard the story.

  • This pizza is garbage. Flavorless crust, rubbery cheese, pepperoni that tastes like slim jims.

I love good, tasty, cheap pizza, but this ain’t it. I’d trade it for a Sbarro’s.

  • The link is long since dead but you can read the comments of those that got the emails to vote:

  • Is this really worth getting worked up about? I didn’t like Spike from Top Chef, but I doubt that would stop me from trying his restaurant food. Business is business, I’m sure this company isn’t the only one gaming the system. I haven’t trusted Washingtonian’s ratings for a long time.

  • I’ve had their slices at Nationals Park. They’re really good when they’re fresh out of the oven, but usually you get one that’s been sitting around for a while and they’re definitely not that great then.

  • Just had delievery and wasn’t that impressed although this is usually the kind of pizza I prefer. The crust was too thin so it turned out crunchy when it should have been kind of chewy.

Right now my favorite average priced delievery is the margharita pizza from Piccante Pizza on 18th Street in Adams Morgan.

I’ve been a couple of times when I needed a quick, cheap meal. Every time I’ve been greeted by a friendly staff and tasty pizza. I think the crust has just the right amount of crunch and the sauce is flavorful.

  • As a born and raised New Yorker, it’s hard to find real, NY style pizza in DC. This is as close as it gets. Yes, it’s not the best pizza I’ve ever had, but it serves as a handy and delicious quick meal.
