  • is it named after the movie theater that was in adams morgan in the 1920s also called the Knickerbocker??

  • It’s an apartment house converted to condominium on Mintwood Place, NW.

  • I live between Irving and Knickerbocker in Brooklyn, I’m not sure if this is where the name comes from in other places: but Washington Irving — America’s first internationally famous author — wrote a history of NY under the name Knickerbocker. Our branch library of the BPL is also named for Irving and so its part of the lore of NY and Brooklyn. Considering Irving stature — it could be well that this name was popular for that reason.

  • It’s kind of a strange name for a newer place, since the Knickerbocker is famous in DC not so much from being the name of the theater, but the fact that the roof collapsed during a blizzard in 1922 killing almost a hundred people http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knickerbocker_Storm

It was in the spot now occupied by the Suntrust at the corner of 18th & Columbia.

  • The less romantic truth behind the name is that the owner is a huge Knicks fan.
