You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

At least it’s a bit cooler today…

  • Rant: losing power for the 5th time in 6 months…

  • Rave: the American Ice House bar/taqueria at Vermont and V (near the 9:30 Club) is coming along nicely – one of the only projects “in development” in the neighborhood that has had any visible movement in the past few months. It looks good and can’t wait for it to open.

Rant: Some people in the Rhapsody building were upset about this place opening up because of noise. I can sympathize, but can’t you all just take one for the team here? I can’t see how any open and running business is worse than a delapidated warehouse.

  • Rant: downtown is a ghost town on the weekends and every sandwich shop and bodega is closed. Wish there was more street life.

  • Rave: Met a really nice girl this weekend
Rant: My shirt hung down on the edge of a fountain and my butt got wet. She thought I’d wet myself.

  • Rant: Spent 45 minutes at Washington Hospital Center ER bleeding waiting for a triage nurse while folks with mysterious stomach ailments got processed. While I may get to keep the tip of my thumb, I may have to wait for it to fall off and grow back (thanks for the +1 hour delay!).

Next time I bleed on your desk you sullen desk nurse!

  • Rave: Sprinklers, baby pools, beautiful oaks at Upshur Pool.
Rant: Wicked scary wind storms knocking branches down on you as you run from the pool.

  • Yesterday was 18 months that I’ve been with my boyfriend. First time I’ve ever gotten to this milestone and it shows no signs of stopping. Total rave!

  • Rave: gal and I spent much of the weekend making fancy watermelon cocktails.
    Rant: I’m never drinking again.

  • Rant: $600 worth of frozen goods and still no power.

    Rave: Impromptu BBQ anyone?

  • Rave: I saw a gang of thugs disguised as elderly German tourists walking down Park Rd so I set my pitbulls loose on them.

Rant: They really WERE elderly German tourists.

  • Rant: Ran over a pedestrian today while biking to work. Fortunately no injuries or damage to the bike, but still shakes you up. Seriously folks, if you’re going to jaywalk with your earphones in and not even bother to look for oncoming traffic before you step off the curb, you are going to get hit.

  • Rave: Finally got to take the ace bandage off my leg and the gauze. I finally do not itch. Stiches out on Wednesday

Rant: I am going STIR CRAZY. I did leave the house yesterday to go volunteer but that pretty much wore me out and i’m going to need a day or two to recover. The worst part is a I have a ton of stuff I can do from home for work but my attention span has barely let me watch a movie.

Rant/Rave: I met my best friend (who is deployed) Platoon Leader at work yesterday. This would be a happy occasion except I work at Walter Reed and said Platoon Leader is a triple amputee at 20 years old. Dear Afghanistan I am so over you.

  • Rant: was jogging around tidal basin this past weekend and a great workout was ruined by a creep sitting alone on a bench w/ his penis out!!! Where are the police when you need them!

Rave: Actually saw a park ranger not too far off and ratted the guy out. I hope they got him.

Rave: Spent more than $20 just on peaches and tomatoes at the farmers market…sooooo yummy worth the cost!

  • Rant: from today’s post….”Regarding DYRS claims of decreasing juvenile crime, the investigation found that juvenile arrests are rising in absolute numbers, reaching a high of almost 550 arrests for serious violent crimes such as homicide, rape and robbery in 2009″. I wonder how many arrests in DC for rapes committed by children?

Rave: The AG and Fenty actually have some balls to try to make a difference. Wonder if it will?

    Rave: Didn’t lose power yesterday.
Weird: Chick on the radio gushing about singing to cows.

  • Rave: Came back from the Outer Banks after a ten year absence.

Rant: My once wild beautiful sparse place is overdeveloped and overpriced now. I know nothing stays the same but damn.

Mixed rave: Clusters of McMansions built too close to the beach are condemned because dunes have eroded and the ocean is right up underneath of them but I do feel sorry for the families who bought them for actual homes instead of investment properties. Mother Nature will have her way in hurricane alley.

  • Mid-1980s pop music was a concentrated conspiracy against drummers.

  • Rant: Only 7 days in week to eat Pho

    Rave: MOVING 2 ADMO

  • Rave: Inspired by CityGirl’s
blog, I just ordered some LELO toys.
Rave: Amazon Prime and free two day shipping – toys arrive on Wednesday 🙂

  • Rant: My steps and walkway have taken a beating after the winter blizzards and summer thunderstorms. Living in Petworth , I see most people use the same grayish paint for their steps and walkway. Is this the paint usually used on garage floors or a particular outdoor paint? And please no snarky comments…I’ve lived in an apartment my whole life, am not used to having an outdoor space, and just want to spruce up my home…

    • There is a particular paint that is designed for outdoor use on concrete. But it comes in colors other than gray.

    • Also think about adding the sandy stuff (for no-skid purposes) to the paint otherwise it can get really slippery in wet conditions.

      • nerdy homeowner question: How does that affect snow shoveling? Right now I’m able to actually scrape that bottom layer of snow-ice off the concrete because it’s smooth. But with a sandy grit?

        • the guys who painted our concrete with said gray paint must have done it wrong, because mine generally came right off while snow shoveling. still finding tidbits in my “lawn” from where the snow melted months later.

      • I have the same question. Is that why so many people in Petworth paint their steps? For the life of me, I cannot figure out what is wrong with plain old concrete.

  • Rave: Thoroughly enjoyed Salem: A Musical at the Fringe Festival on Saturday.

Rant: Trapped in car with my pup as the storm ripped through and shook the car yesterday. Felt like we were in Jurassic Park and the T-Rex would appear any second.

  • Rant: My best friend is leaving DC and going back to Texas.

Rave: To send him off in a good way, we went to Virginia Beach on Saturday!

Rant1: It took us SIX HOURS to get there due to the traffic!
