Mt. Pleasant Movie Series Starts July 24th

Add one more to your outdoor movies series options this summer. Given there are so many options this summer does anyone have a favorite venue so far?

From a press release:

“Mount Pleasant Main Street (MPMS) and CricKet Wireless present the free 2010 Movies in the Park

The films, themed “Road Trip,” include Little Miss Sunshine, Ride the Divide, The Brave Little Toaster
and Salt of the Earth. The movie series is designed to encourage community engagement, support local
businesses and draw visitors to the neighborhood.

For the hour prior to each film screening, MPMS will organize activities in Lamont Park such as live
music, Mount Pleasant trivia, and raffling of prizes from Mount Pleasant businesses.

Movies will begin at dusk, unless otherwise noted. Viewers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and
blankets. Picnic meals can be purchased from local vendors.

  • a dim future

why can’t we just have some fun summer movies? must mt pleasnts overblown sense of righteousness prevail in the movie series too?

    • I have to agree. Apparently, they dont want people to attend.

    • hotsauce

Oh god. Don’t we have enough vapid, dude-movie movie series in DC for yupster tastes? Can’t the yupsters stay in Col Hts and leave MtP to do something connected to its history and culture without having to vomit in the comments section?

    • I’m sorry, are Little Miss Sunshine and Brave Little Toaster not fun movies? I guess it’s hard to avoid the overbearing sense of righteousness hovering over an animated movie about household appliances on an adventure.

And wow, movies about something interesting that you might not know about! Wouldn’t want to broaden your horizons at all!

      • Lrob

My thoughts exactly. Were these meant to be sarcastic? Brave Little Toaster is like the precursor to Toy Story! There’s a talking electric blanket!

    • huh

why are you complaining about a free-ish community activity meant to bring people together? (And if you want “fun summer movies” why don’t you go to Rosslyn)

      • a dim future

why do i have to go to Rossyln for fun summer movies? who chose these movies and better yet who will be watching the last two?

        • a dim future

p.s. i think more money might be made for very deserving charities if less obscure albeit intersting movies had been chosen!

    • Josh

Brave little toaster is awesome. Sorry you feel that we in Mt. Pleasant have an overblown sense of righteousness. Stay on your side of 16th street if you can’t handle it.

    • 17th & Kenyon

Last week I walked past this and they were showing a Jackie Chan movie. I don’t think this falls into the “overblown sense of righteousness” category

  • Rick Shard

I wish they were screening the actual movie called Road Trip. Probably too much nudity to show in public, though.

  • Lauren

Looks like a good variety of movies. Glad to see free events like this one that benefit the Mt. P. community.

  • Living on Mt P

    cool! love this!

  • mieldog

    If you like movies…

Come to a free screening at E Street Cinema tonight!

I directed Ride the Divide. It’s just out in select theaters and has been selling out a lot of shows. It’s a film that is surprising many as it’s not just for the cycling community. Hope you check it out and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
