You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

  • Rant: I can’t believe how much work it is to get rid of a holly tree stump. I’ve been hacking and digging for a month of weekends with no end in sight.

Semi-Rave: Went to the ground breaking on the “old Soldier’s Hospital” on Penn Ave SE. All the city council and EHN were there. It was kind of interesting to see them all on the porch together.

  • rave: great weekend weather, if a bit hot. Got tons done in the yard and garden, + building a garden enclosure to keep the squirrels away from our tomatoes!

rave/rant: had a drink with a friend from New Orleans. Great to see her, but now I’m home sick.

    • If you’re originally from New Orleans, this weather should be child’s play to you. I grew up in Saudi and this is like winter vacation to me. Still sucks, though.

      • Yes, indeed! Doesn’t compare to the summertime pea soup weather in NOLA, but I’ve been here for 5 years and I’ve gotten soft. Can’t deal with the heat anymore!

  • rant: Had a nightmare that I moved to the suburbs. My heart sank when I realized I couldn’t walk to any pubs, and I didn’t have a car (which I don’t IRL either), and there was no public transportation. I remember screaming “I can’t walk to Asylum!”.

rave: said to myself: “I must be dreaming” and promptly woke up.

  • Are they ever going to open the 12th street tunnel access from 395 south (west)? Its been closed now for YEARS

  • rant: Babies in movie theatres at nighttime showings. They should be banned from any movie starting after 8pm. I wish I could ban giggly/shrieking teenage girls as well, but that might be asking too much…

  • Rave: Both the Curbside Cupcakes and SweetGreen trucks parked outside during lunch today.

Rant: I’m having trouble staying awake now.

  • ah

Rant: That picture is worse than the dog poop one. We should be complaining about people, not dogs. Or both.

  • rant: graffiti on the cvs already…and its not even open yet

rave: a wonderful hike in carderock and great falls yesterday. dog was thoroughly tuckered out!

  • rant: OMG! the way (IMHO) texting abbreviations are creeping into our everyday communications – even speech, for Pete’s sake. Stupid kids.

rave: IJHLPFL, if care you know.

  • Rant – went to Fusion on Georgia Ave last Friday night and had a great dinner. But we were the only people in the place from 7-9pm. Doesn’t do any good to complain about people not opening nice restaurants if nobody patronizes the nice ones we have…

    • +1 on that. Great food there.

We have to support the local little guys or all we’ll have are Ruby Tuesdays and 437 pollo places. Nothing against pollo places (and I realize that they’re local little guys, too), but enough already! We don’t need 437 of them!

    • if only fusion had opened in bloomingdale where we would love a nice place.

      • The amount of bulletproof glass that would’ve been needed to open it in Bloomingdale was prohibitively expensive.

    • I thought that nobody goes there anymore because it’s too crowded.

    • that place is great. I definitely will go back.

Rave: The German national team played a delightful match.
Rant: I’m expected to work during the World Cup. Are these people mad?
Rave: My app that lets me listen to the games.

Super Rave: I stayed up all night fuming and composing rants about stupid things that pissed me off all weekend, but today I have let them go and am enjoying my day.

  • rant: goddammit!
    rave: yay!

  • Rave: Went to yoga Sunday morning at Quiet Mind on 14th – it’s normally packed. But yesterday, maybe because of World Cup or just summer weekend, I was the only person there. She still held the class – I got one-on-one yoga, it was great though I am really feeling it today 🙂

  • Rave: T-ball purchase was a big hit with the wee ones.
Rant: The one year old was choking up on the bat.

  • Rave – There are two peanut-butter smeared dog biscuits in my Kong.

    Rant – I can’t get them out!

  • Rant: I just got in from spending an hour on the metro with a shrieking baby. I escaped to another car and some guy was pounding on a child’s drum to try to amuse another baby. After being stared down by other passengers who didn’t want to hear the drum, his child started screaming at the top of its lungs. I have a headache.

    • Not being a fan of the little people, it amazes me that they can get away with that kind of thing, while I, theoretically, can not. Though the temptation has been great to start wailing at peak lung power on the metro & on the crowded 70 bus. Maybe today…..
