PoP Preview: Bella Cafe

It’s been a couple of months since we checked in on Bella Cafe located at 900 Florida Ave, NW (near 9:30 Club). I chatted with the owner this past weekend who is now shooting for a July 4th opening but of course that depends on the final permits being issued. The inside is nearly 100% completed. It’s a bit spartan at the moment but here are a few pics to get some idea of what it’ll look like:

  • It looks pretty no frills, but that’s not a bad thing. Much much better than an empty storefront and hopefully serves up some tasty food. Any idea what the menu will look like? Judging by the name of the place, it would seem Italian but not sure.

    • Prince Of Petworth

Yeah, I asked about the menu as well and he said it was being finalized this week. I think it’s gonna be a combination of styles but I’ll post the menu when it comes out for sure.

  • This is great, but what about the Brixton next door? Any movement lately?

    • Prince Of Petworth

Brixton is still in build out phase. Last I heard I think it was 6-8 month time frame.

  • Is this where the old Asmara Cafe used to be? If so, this interior already looks WAY better.

  • There actually is a little cafe open now… right on the corner of Florida, where there used to be a coffee shop (Mocha Hut?). People were out in the heat… last Friday night! Great to see it.

  • looks ghetto.

    • I wouldn’t go that far. I think it looks pretty budg on the decor and tables, but I am guessing if hamburgers are on the menu, you can get them for at or below $10.

Anyway, I am happy with the way it looks now, considering two months ago the section of the walls that is now painted a seafoam green was painted with stripes of purple and yellow and orange…

    • what is “ghetto” about this?

  • So I haven’t eaten here but I have a good story to share about the owner. A few weeks ago, my parents were in town to visit. We were driving right in front of the cafe, and the car in front of us stopped short, my mom slammed on the brakes, and the man behind us tapped the rental and left some scuff marks. If it had been my parents’ car they wouldn’t have minded, but they were nervous b/c it was a rental. Anyway, the owner of the Bella Cafe came out and helped us get the scuff marks out with WD40. It was so nice. I will definitely be checking it out when it opens.

  • WD40? Who knew! I think we all need to start carrying cans in our trunks.

  • that is beyond spartan.

  • Not digging the decor at all. No incentive to linger, that’s for sure.
