It’s been a long time coming but the day has finally arrived. Welcome Petworth’s newest sitdown restaurant – Sala Thai located at 3716 Georgia Avenue, NW (above the Petworth Metro in the Park Place building). They are having a soft opening starting Friday evening (tonight)!
Still some finishing touches going on but here’s a quick sneak peek at the dining area:

Shoot. I’ll be out of town. Otherwise, I’d be there for the opening. I know there are plenty of keyboard snobs who are too good for a local chain, but I, for one, will be dining there often. It’s a great addition to the neighborhood.
Agreed. I’ve been waiting for this place to open for months.
So excited about Sala Thai! Any word on what else may come to this retail strip?
Subway sandwich shop, Park Place Cafe (kinda like a smaller Tryst), a restaurant (possibly from owner of fmr. Colorado Kitchen, Gillian Clark)
There’s been a “Coming Soon” sign up for Subway for several months, but so far it seems like very little progress has been made. Same goes for the cafe next door.
Thanks for the info guys. What about the Billy Simpson’s spot? Is that still happening? Looks like little to no progress has been made.
Yes, I just spoke with Billy Simpson’s owners yesterday. More construction on that spot starts soon.
Secondly when I was at Sala Thai, I happened to run into two folks from Subway (next door). They too said build out is starting very soon. They were also trying to decide how late Subway should stay open for – 10pm 10:30pm or 11pm
I give them three weeks until they’re held up at gunpoint.
This is a stupid comment
It’s not so stupid of a comment and concern. I hear a lot of businesses on U St. have been robbed. Is it true that Nellie’s was even robbed a short while back?
It’s a stupid comment because yes that can happen anywhere in the city.
Friday evening, like Tonight? or Next Friday?
Just wondering since the G.O. was a week from Tuesday.
Sorry about that, soft opens tonight! If you go shoot me an email and let me know how it went?
Is it just a sit-down area, or is there a bar area as well?
I’ll be the guinea pig. I plan on going tonight to check it out. I used to live near the one in Clarendon. They are following me!
I was there last night. It’s a little smaller and feels more casual than the ones on U Street and in Bethesda. They have a bar, and a sushi bar, and the food and jazz are excellent as usual.
Yeah and next we’ll be debating oil spills!
