“Friends of Harrison Recreation Center, the U Street Neighborhood Association, Meridian Hill Neighborhood Association, ANC 1B and Midcity Business Association announced today the launch of the summer U Street Movie Series.

The theme of this year’s movie series pays homage to the musical and culturally diverse roots of the U Street Neighborhood, with a series of documentaries and films telling moving stories of accomplished musicians.

The schedule is as follows:

June 8: Michael Jackson’s This Is It (rain date June 15)
July 13: Buena Vista Social Club (rain date July 20)
Aug 10: The Soloist (rain date Aug 17)
Sept 14: Duke Ellington’s Washington and Soul Power (rain date Sept 21)

All films will be shown at the field at Harrison Recreation Center on V Street between 13th and 14th Streets, NW Gates will open at 7 pm.  Free popcorn will be provided to the first 100 attendees beginning at 8 pm.  Showtime will be at sundown around 8:30 pm.  Full information can be found at http://movies.ustreet-dc.org.”

  • I can’t get enough of outdoor movies. I think a good spot for one serving the MTP and Columbia Heights neighborhoods would be the feild behind DCUSA. Also. Carter Baron Ampitheater, that hosts shakespear in the park, doesn’t get nearly enough use. A movie night there would be cool too.

    • Alas, the Free For All is no longer held outside at Carter Baron…it’s now inside at the Shakespeare Theatre, which is nice and all, to get to see a free production, but totally lame too…

  • This is the best thing to have happened to me in months.

  • Columbia Heights Day will be having a summer movie series in CH this summer. June 24 and July 29, location tba.

  • These are all GREAT movies too!
