The Craigslist ad says:

“Beautiful penthouse apartment on Calvert street in Adams Morgan. This apartment features a large private roof deck off the bedroom and surrounded by trees for unbeatable privacy and relaxation. This one bedroom apartment is the entire top floor of a row house on beautiful, tree-lined, quiet and convenient Calvert street. The apartment has exposed brick, multiple windows for plenty of sunlight, claw-foot tub, and all the charm and character one would expect from an Adams Morgan rowhouse, but at the very low price of just $1900/month. Water is included in the rent, and the heat is furnace powered so it is included in the rent as well. The utilities are always under $50/month in the winter and up to $90 at most in the summer.”

Ooh these roofdecks are killing me. Sweet. But does $1900 sound reasonable?

  • Yes. That roofdeck will contribute to the procurement of much tail. And a darn fine location.

    • Agreed, private roof top ahhhhhhhh. Plus it’s dog friendly without mention of an extra fee.

  • I think it’s a good deal. You could certainly pay a few hundred less per month in that area, but likely for someplace below grade and without so much character (certainly without a deck!). This seems to be a get-what-you-pay for kind of rental rate. For someone who really cares about having a cool place with fun perks, I think it’s an attractive option.

  • Agree with all previous… While a roof deck would be killer and definitely worth paying for, I just don’t have enough moolah to dish out for that cool of a place right now. Now, in 10 years… hopefully!

  • Pending adequate size and no funky layout I’m going to say yes, it’s a fair price and likely to be rented easily.

  • Seems a bit pricey in these hard times, especially trapped in a big building, but looks like good light in the unit. Noisy diesel party street too. Parking is a nightmare that part of town, but there are babes galore and incredible access to services.

I need to raise my rent!

  • I’m sure they’ve rented it out by now, but I checked it out this weekend at their open house. Lovely place, but the current tenants mentioned that the “washer/dryer combo unit doesn’t really dry our clothes that well…we have to take them to a laundromat drop-off service.” Yikes! $1900, and I have to go to a laundromat because the dryer is faulty? (And the management company didn’t fix it?) That patio was really swell, but there’s no way I’d want to schlep my dirty laundry down 2 flights of stairs and down the block every other week.
