  • Anyone have a reasonable estimate what percentage of the pool water consists of urine at the end of the day?

  • I’m waiting on the City Paper’s pool fecal contamination tests like they did last year:

  • Yes, pools are just big tubs of excrement. I strongly encourage everyone to stay away from the lap lanes at the Haines Point pool, the Wilson pool in Tenleytown and the Takoma Park indoor pools. I implore you to not use the WSC pool, particularly between 7:00 and 8:00 in the morning or between 6:00 and 8:00 at night. The risk to your health is just too great.

  • The city needs to add more swim classes for children. Kids should know how to swim by the time they are 5 or 6, it prevents drownings and encourages fitness. The 10-slot, half hour weekly classes they offer for parent-child swim lessons fill up in seconds after registration opens. One example is the Saturday class this summer for 2.5-5 year olds at the Wilson pool. Since the classes are such a success and clearly in high demand, maybe the city should add more slots? Let’s capitalize on something we are doing right.

  • The Friends of 16th Street Heights Parks in partnership with Ward 4 Councilmember Muriel Bowser and DC DPR is hosting a POOL OPENING PARTY at Upshur pool on May 29th. Food and Fun! Come one come all! 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

  • This is exciting new for the neighborhood. Don’t worry kids, the “Urine Freaks” are afraid of pools and don’t understand clorine.

Chlorine is used as a swimming-pool sanitizer to kill algae, bacteria and viruses. It’s also used in higher concentrations as a shock treatment to clarify the water and remove residual chlorine that has combined with organic matter and become inactive.

    Have a great summer!

    • If you could guarantee me there were no bacteria or viruses, I’m still not swimming in poo. It’s poo, man.
