The Craigslist ad says:

“Across from historic Meridian Park
Spacious living area
Beautiful Hardwood floors
Updated Kitchens
Renovated hallways, new elevator
Bike Room available
Garden/utopia under construction
Short Walk to Columbia Heights Metro & Shopping (app. 8 minutes)”

I’ve always been curious about these places. I think it would be super to cool live across the street from the park. Do you think this 1 bedroom is reasonably priced at $1350?

I guess, it’ll be really nice when utopia is created…

I briefly lived a block from that location, at 16th and Euclid. I was paying slightly less, but sharing a rather small 2-bedroom with a roommate. While 16th Street and the park are quite lovely, I always felt that 15th Street block was kind of shady and unattractive, especially at night. I’d always opt to find parking around 17th Street, even though it meant a slightly longer walk. Still, this sounds like a good price, though it’s hard to tell for sure without seeing the interior.

  • We looked in this building a few years ago – oh my maybe 5 by now. how time flies – Anyway, at the time, there were a lot of add ons/fees to the move in price that we didn’t like. They sort of hid them until we sat down to go over the lease. The management seemed somewhere between lackadaisical and rude. Maybe it’s better now, but we opted for an english basement in Mt. P for less overall and fewer move-in costs. Also, the park is nice in daylight – except for the little mobs of teenagers – but at night felt very unsafe.

  • The park is nice in the daytime, but I’m not so sure I’d want to live right next to it. And that area immediately east of the park has its share of crime. It varies by block.

  • It’s really hard to say without seeing any interior shots. I’m curious what these buildings look like too… but with no pics all I know is it’s a pretty cheap price.

  • Yeah no interior shots could be bad news…though it’s probably the typical garden style apartment that hasn’t been renovated in the last, oh, 40 years or so. Personally I don’t really mind…but probably not to the taste of the marble countertop crowd.

  • I would like to see how the utopia works out. Most stories I’ve read about people trying to build them don’t turn out so well.

  • What the heck is a garden/utopia anyway?

  • I live in the building next door to this one and have always wondered what it was like inside since it is more inexpensive than mine. I will say that it is great living across from the park. I’ve lived there for 3 years and never had a problem with crime, even being a single female walking alone at night, knock on wood. I do get the crime alerts and this block is much safer than those a couple of blocks north or east.
