Free in DC: Things to do Tonight – Sunday!

It’s Amy from Free in DC happy to be back with you here at PoP! Below you will find a list of free and low cost events to choose from tonight and this weekend!

Highlights for Thursday, May 6th – Sunday, May 9th
Tonight, you can stay outdoors and learn more about sailing at the Waterfront in SW where DC Sail hosts an Open House at the Gangplank Marina. You can also choose from two Pay-What-You-Can Performances tonight, Mikveh at the DCJCC Theater J at 7:30pm or Constellation Theatre’s The Ramayana at Source at 8:00pm. In the Chinatown area, you can check out DCCAH’s monthly Art Salon, which will highlight the photography of students through local arts organization Critical Exposure or you can head over to the Goethe to hear Wolf Lieser’s Talk about Digital Art. You can stop by Stdio H in NE to enjoy Art & Free Happy Hour as well or you can head up to MD to check out the opening night of the Takoma Park/ Silver Spring Experimental Film Festival.

During the day this weekend…

Annual Passport DC! continues with their Embassy Open House events this Saturday from 10:00am – 4:00pm when EU Embassies open their doors to the public as part of the Shortcut to Europe. Metro to Grovsenor for a Free Guided Tour of the Baltimore Watercolor Society exhibition at Strathmore at 1:00pm on Saturday and be sure to enjoy the green landscape out back if you go. Indulge with a Free Wine & Chocolate Tasting at Biagio on 18th St on Saturday from 3:00pm – 6:00pm or, if you’re feeling crafty, head over to Ballston in VA for the opening day of the Ballston Art & Craft Market between 10:00am – 4:00pm. Saturday at 5:00pm near Eastern Market there will be an opening for CHAW’s Juried Art Show. This Sunday, and every Sunday, from 4:00pm – 5:00pm you can go to a Free Community Yoga Class at Quiet Mind Yoga or you can head over to picnic or people watch at Meridian Hill/ Malcolm X Parkwhere they also have a weekly drum circle with dancing.

At night this weekend…

Friday night is the “First Friday in Dupont” Galleries stay open from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Hillyer stays open til 9:00pm and there is an opening performance and installation at WPA that looks interesting. For other art options on Friday night, you can head over to see Duke Ellington School Students Art Work on view Friday night near Georgetown University or swing by Chinatown to check out works by local artist Stevens Jay Carter’s Opening at Caos on F Friday night from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. At The Levine School on Friday, a French Jazz Trio will be performing works by Edith Piaf and others starting at 7:00pm, there is a cover for this one $10, $6 for students. There is another PWYC performance of  The Ramayana on Friday at 7:30pm as well. On Saturday night Busboys and Poets 5th & K hosts “Poetry on the Patio” starting at 9:00pm. This Sunday, and every Sunday, you can enjoy Free Classical Music at the National Gallery of Art at 6:30pm or join the IMCW Meditation at All Souls at 6:00pm, dhana, donation, based. This Sunday night in Clarendon, VA from 6:00pm – 8:00pm is the free, Monthly Poetry Open Mic & Art Hang at Iota. In Columbia Heights, BloomBars hosts their weekly “Seed the Sound Sundays” with live music from 8pm -10:30pm.
