Logan Circle Restaurants Still Coming to 14th Street, NW?

IMG_3976

I’ve been getting lots of emails inquiring about any progress on some of the restaurants slated to come to 14th Street, NW. The one above was/is supposed to be the Diamond District by Chef Barton Seaver, located at 1612 14th Street, NW. Sadly, the Diamond District sign has come down and when I peeked in the window there didn’t seem to be much progress. While I really hope the Diamond District makes it, at this point I’d welcome the return of 100% Mexico…

In equally uneventful news the spot to serve American Fare, Local 14 coming to 1832 14th Street, NW hasn’t made much progress either.

I’ll end on happier news – Point Chaud is making serious progress at 1734 14th Street, NW. I imagine they’ll be open relatively soon. Stay tuned and have a great weekend!

the fact that there is no longer a Diamond District sign discouraged me a lot as well. I really hope they open, it would be such an awesome addition to the ‘hood.

Local 14 is progressing inside. I just hired the brick guy to repoint my house. There was more renvation work than expected.

Oh, please Bart, we want Diamond District. Please, we love you!!!

Wasn’t it recently established in other posts that unless the zoning laws are changed or special exceptions are granted, most of these under-construction places will not be allowed to open?

Nope. DCRA said they wouldn’t issue anymore permits. I am assuming these places already have their DCRA permits for remodeling and such if they are doing work inside. When they calculated the % of the corridor that was restaurants, they included spaces that were already approved but were still in progress. From my understanding, many places that we’ve heard buzz about will still open, so long as they’ve received their permits.

Diamond District permits are also off the window. Maybe the boy wonder is too busy writing his soon to be released cookbook, or doing cooking shows or spending time with his new bride? Or maybe the money just dried up!
