The Craigslist ad says:

Does $1095 sound reasonable for a studio at this location? In comparison I’d like to show one more studio that I found.

This one is located at Garfield Street at Cathedral Avenue, NW. The Craigslist ad says:

“Spacious light-filled L-shaped studio apartment with separate entrance in family home for rent in Wesley Heights. Features include: a large living area with flat-screen television and multi-channel cable access; dining area with table and chairs; large bathroom with walk-in shower; efficiency kitchen; and new washer/dryer. Near the N2, N4, and D2 Metrobuses. Free parking if you have a car. Great neighborhood for runners, bikers, and long Sunday walks in the woods. Shopping within walking distance. Rent: $1200 including utilities (gas, electric, water, cable.) Some furnishings may be available if needed.”

Either of these sound good?

  • I love the sofa. My grandmother has one like that and I covet it. However, it is definitely more for looks.

  • your map is not showing the location described, but logan area.

  • I looked at apartments in that building a couple years ago. The building is a AWFUL. It’s so gross, with smelly dark hallways and crumbling infrastructure. It’s entirely possible that those photos are actually pictures of their “show room,” which is a fake apartment on the first floor that they stage and show people. Then when you see the actual apartments, they’re in much worse condition. I found it way too depressing to even think about living there.

I wish it weren’t the case, but this building is a convincing argument against rent-control (yes, apparently it exists here in DC – just wish it gave better results).

    • Oh, and I was talking about 1500 Pennsylvania Avenue

    • I live in 1500 Massachusetts Ave and I can say that they’ve redone the hallways, so the place is in better shape than what you might remember.

But, the stairwells always smell strongly of urine–once spotted a jar of pee on my way down–and there are always beer bottles sitting about. Until the stairwells stop doubling as a shelter, I can’t recommend very strongly.

  • Why did it say “You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down” when I haven’t posted a comment in weeks?

  • I lived at 13th & Mass from 2000-2003 and was paying just under $900 for a studio when I moved out, so $0195 sounds about right. Maybe even low.

    Messed up Captcha: fatality train.
