You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

Any good Christmas/holiday stories?

  • I love the Zoo Bar. Good times.

  • Does anyone know the planned completion date of the Columbia Heights streetscape? I am slowly beginning to lose it with this messy project. The website http://www.columbiaheights-streetscape.com/index.htm is not regularly updated and I can’t find the planned construction schedule.

It will be wonderful when it is done, but it’s a real bear to live near right now in the dead of winter knowing it’s understandably not moving fast this time of year.

  • lets see, fedex delivered, and I heated the holiday dinner – turning on the stove is the new iron chef. Sent my jewish buddy xmas ornaments.
    Apparently flying is now illegal.
got the bacon strip air freshner for the car. sweet.

    It’s almost King Cake season!

  • Q: Any good Christmas/holiday stories?

    A: Nope!

  • Vonstallin

Rant: Home alone for the holidays..as usual. got tipsy and went to bed with my head hanging over the bed so woke up with a bad crook in my neck…still hurts.

Rant: was bored out my mind..

Rave: So glad to be back at work…almost jumped off my roof.

Rave: went out on a blind date that was ok.

  • Can anyone recommend a good contractor? Year-end bonuses are in and I’d like to put in additional counter space. I’d need the cabinets/base and counter top (butcher block) put in.

  • Charlie Jones-

There is no such thing as a good contractor. Only ones that do shotty work, charge too much, take too long, make a mess, or don’t finish at all.

    • Let me get this straight – You want a contractor who will do the work well, quickly and clean up spotlessly AND you want it CHEAP? Talk about having your cake and eating it too. I assume you perform some awesome work for below minimum wage with a smile right?

  • Rave: Good relaxing holiday.

    Rant: Somehow got sick…

Rant p2: The new apartment search is not going as well as I would have hoped…

  • Rave: I am having my first pork-free day scine elaving Indytucky.

Rant: I miss ham, bacon, sausage and OMG sausage gravy.

  • Rant: using a sensitive touch pad on a lap top that sends before I finished spellchecking…

  • Rant: I don’t like it when writers on this blog presumably refer to folk of european decent as gentry interlopers from Iowa or Front Royal. Interloper defined…..”One that interferes with the affairs of others, often for selfish reasons; a meddler.” So as “new comers” from places like “Front Royal” or “Arlington” in a neighborhood plagued by gunplay and other random violence, we are meddling when we collaborate in writing to make a difference to make the place more hospitable to folk who don’t like bullets flying around on a weekly basis for what seems like almost no reason at all, be they local non-interlopers non-gentrys or the like. Hmm, I hadn’t quite thought of it that way before. If “we” are interlopers, what are they?

Rave: A blog like this that tolerates open discussions of quality of life issues in “our” neighborhoods.

  • Rant: There is almost always one escalator at the Georgia/Petworth metro not working. I need every second in the morning and I blame the escalator when I’m late.

Rave: Getting back into yoga. Maybe it will remove some of my animosity towards the escalator…

Rant: the PBS show on Louisa May Alcott blows.
