  • Rant: Not digging the new captcha. At all!

Not sure what I think about the new layout overall – but I see where you’re going with it.

  • Rave: 2 1/2 day workweek, 4 1/2 day weekend

Rant: Dealing with DCA security lines early Thur morning

  • Prince Of Petworth

@bdh if you register and log in you don’t have to deal with the captcha.

  • Rant: New PoP Layout makes my iPhone feel pain

  • Vonstallin

Only that it took me 5 minutes to find the new log in way at the bottom. **Note: Log ins are never ever at the bottom Always top…always..

Rave: had a super ball dancing my arse off at EYE Bar Friday night. My friends and a few motorcycle stores had a end of the year party and it was soo much fun. Drove my truck and park then Bicycled the rest of the way.

Ended the night at 5am at Steak and Egg on Wisconsin.
These are the days that I love my city and being so local. Alot of the participants were from wayyy out in VA.

Finaly cut my baby Afro and Teddy Pendergrass beard off, lol Pic on my FB page….

  • Prince Of Petworth

@Rukusu In the next few months I will solve that problem for your iphone.

@vonstallin. Good suggestion. I’ll move the login/register up to the between the search box and recent comments on the right hand side.

  • Vonstallin

(hey POP) can we have avatars now? I was looking thru my profile to see if there was a function, but didn’t see anything.

Rave: love the new site, cleaner, modern feeling.

  • PoP – can you hyperlink the image at the top of the page so it returns to the home screen?

  • Prince Of Petworth

@vonstallin Yes, you can have avatars now. I just asked my friend who did the updates to explain how folks can upload them. Stay tuned…

  • Prince Of Petworth

@Lol The image at the top is currently hyperlinked to the home page, did it not work for you?

  • Rave: lots of landscaping on Saturday – now I’m sore, but it’s a good sore!

Rave: 2.5 day work week! Going to NC to see the family for thanksgiving, can’t wait!

Rant: lots and lots of work to do

Rave: get together with the regular PoP commenters December 2nd @ 7:30 – everyone welcome, really want to meet everyone!

  • Prince Of Petworth

    @Mal where on Dec. 2nd?

  • GiantSquid

Rave: Love living on Capitol Hill. Hill’s Kitchen, Eastern Market, Chat’s Liquors, Sanphan, etc. Most of what I need right there.

Rave2: Won’t be around for Turkey Day so put up the holiday decorations this weekend.

Rant: Already lost several ornaments thanks to klutziness and the dogs and the dogs’ klutziness and insatiable appetites for chewing anything that’s remotely chewable.

  • GiantSquid

@POP you have a favicon now! Mazel tov!

  • @PoP – haven’t decided yet – wanted to do something that was central to a lot of people. I’m downtown, a bunch of you guys are in Columbia Heights & Petworth…

I put down a vote for Lauriol Plaza in Adams Morgan! Sangria, yummm 🙂

and PS – loveee love the new layout! It works well on my blackberry storm – better than the old layout!

  • Yeah, here’s my rant – what’s with the number of shootings in Ward 4 over the past couple of months? Seems like every time I try to sit down and relax after getting home from work, I hear gunshots. Or I read about gunshots on the listserv. Or I read about someone getting shot. What’s going on? I mean, we’re used to some level of craziness in Ward 4, but this is just getting absurd!

  • Rave: Got the bulbs planted before the frost. You may perchance to admire them next spring. I had to do something – the neighbors across the street have an awesome cascading bed of bright pink creeping phlox.
Rant: Caught the baby’s cold. Sniffle hawk ptuh!

  • Additional rave: Saw park service guys picking up trash and cans along Piney Branch Parkway. Thanks guys!

  • raves: 3 day workweek! and an upcoming date with a very intriguing lady.

  • Checked out the Safeway on 5th and K and was pleasantly surprised on not only savings vs. local Whole Foods, but the staff was very helpful and courteous. I’ll definitely go back!! Great organic options too! Oh and best part, it’s not so crowded you can’t walk around!! No lines either!!

  • Rave: Short work week and long weekend

Rant: There was foam in my latte this morning. FOAM!!!!11!!1!!!!

  • Mal: How about close to metro, any metro. Ir since the majority is in CH we could just meet up there.

  • Emmaleigh504

I second the vote for Lauriol Plaza.

Rant: impending holiday “joy” makes me want to vomit.
    Rave: 10 & eaux!!!!!

  • @Mal… Every time someone mentions Lauriol Plaza I always picture the crappy liquor store and crumbling parking lot that used to be on that corner…back when the bodies were still being found in that neighborhood. The crapola has just moved slowly East over the years. 18th street has come a long way. So all you Petworthians, just wait awhile. It will get better….

  • Vonstallin

Oh Man a wednesday, I just may be able to make it.
    Set it up.

Adams and Pizza works for me also….

For people trying to get together with others from the area….

(just to keep the thread on track, lol)

  • Rave: New format looks good..
Rant: Content has become sort of bland and redundant…

  • Is the new font actually smaller or does it just seem that way with the extra spacing? I’m not liking the new spacing & box format for comments – makes it much harder to skim through -lots more scrolling.

Also not sure about the double row of advertisements at the top. I understand advertisers might think top position more advantageous, but I personally find it visually too crowded/confusing. I notice the ads much more in a single line – and good graphics will always attract more than position.

  • I think “Washington, D.C.” should be somewhere on the home page.

  • Rave: people replying 🙂

I’ve gotten two other votes for Lauriol Plaza… If that really doesn’t work for someone, maybe someone can recommend a place closer to a Metro Stop for a future meet up – I don’t get up to Col Hts that often so I don’t know the good bars… Soooo for this get together, the official information is:

    December 2nd 7:30 pm
Lauriol Plaza – first floor bar

If you have a PoP t-shirt, please wear it! This way we can all flock to those in t-shirts! Or just get a plain white t-shirt and write PoP in giant letters 🙂

  • Changing topic: regarding a recent comment(s) that CH newcomers (whites, presumably) are not friendly and don’t make eye contact or say hello.

I find this generally to be true for everybody in DC, white, black, Asian, young, old. I’ll stop short of saying it’s not a friendly town (though that IS my inclination), but people are seriously closed off to strangers and generally scurry from place to place without acknowledging one another.

Maybe I’m spoiled, having come from New Orleans, where strangers will readily have 20 minute conversations while waiting at the same bus stop, but come on, folks. Let’s chat. Or at least just look in my general direction when I say ‘hello.’

Sick of the cold shoulder around here!

  • rave: 5 days with the girlfriend for thanksgiving
rant: have to quit smoking cigarettes due to the girlfriends parents’ hatred of all things cigarette.
rant b: dicked into coming into work tomorrow morning after all my leave had been approved.

  • Rave: Cop on horseback patrolling the Section 8 housing in my ‘hood on Saturday afternoon. Huge horse…

  • Rave: Big fan of the new layout and being able to register, it makes me feel like a VIP.

Rant: I registered but when I log-in it tells my password isn’t working and when I enter my email address it tells me that that email address isn’t registered…

  • rave: bro’s wedding this weekend. open bar.

rant: i’ll be attending it as a single.

  • Rant: Not nuts about having to type those annoying words below the comment box.

Rave: Love the right rail showing posts and comments, etc.

Kind of Rant: Drop down boxes are annoying, kind of slow to use.

Rave: Love the idea that neighborhood blogs are being taken to a whole new level. Congrats on the makeover!

  • Also (forgot to mention this!) I agree with @victoria, lots o’ scrolling!

  • RAVE: Tonight is Slapsgiving 2: The Revenge of the Slap

    that is all

  • RAVE: Sweetgreen is coming to Logan Circle!!! http://tinyurl.com/yd8uewq

Maoz, the falafel place on M Street, is open!

  • I think new layout is ok, but will take some getting used to. I am used to seeing who wrote the comment first and then the time it was posted so that was a little annoying at first. Also, the font is harder on my old eyes – not sure why – just is. kind of logging in may lower the numbers of comments – not sure if that is good or bad.

  • Rant: It’s a cold dreay Day…

    Rave: Great new PoP Layout!!!

  • Prince Of Petworth

@Kay you don’t have to register but if you don’t register then you have to fill in the captcha words (used as a counter spam tool).

  • Rant: Have to work on Thanksgiving. This sucks b/c A) I can’t go home for the holiday and B) I’m working on Thanksgiving!

Kinda’ Rant: Note to everyone who gets it into their mind to volunteer during the holidays: you are needed the rest of the year, too! Don’t wait until Thanksgiving or Christmas to do your good deed!

Rave: Went to JJ’s Cheese Steak Factory (or whatever the actual name is) at U and 14th for lunch today. I’m no expert, but they make a mighty tasty sammich!
