Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. Anything good happen this week?

  • All my potential dates for the PoP party ditched me (you know who you are) so I just went home and read a trashy novel.

  • Rave – Saw “This is It” last night and it was great!
Rave – The weather is great!
Rave – My husband and I are participating in our block clean up tomorrow morning. Love our neighbors!

    No rants today!
    Happy Friday

  • Rant: Wish I could say that I love my neighbor in Brightwood. She hates everything from
the busdrivers, mail carriers, post office, recycling pick up, Safeway on Piney Branch,
persnickety neighbor who doesn’t like her yard sales. JUST MOVE ALREADY. Your negative energy is exhausting to all of us!
Rave: The weather is gorgeous & the check arrived–I am on my way!!!!

  • Vonstallin

Rave: Listening to : Reason to Forget by Kisty Hawkshaw (remix) have me jumping at work.

Rave: looking forward to good food 4 lunch…

Rant: wish i could have made the wonderland POP party to meet more of my neighbors beyond my block.

  • Rant: My new bathroom isn’t quite done.
Rave: My contractor is going to carpet the master bedroom for free to make up for the delay.
Rave: The 95% of the bathroom completed looks nice!

  • Rave: It’s Friday, it’s payday and the weather is beautiful.

Rant: Too many to list in detail: Verizon, my internet connection, my almost deceased tv, the plumbing, the fact that I missed the PoP party due to all of the aforementioned.

  • Rant: I have the flu and I couldn’t go to PoP’s party last night 🙁

That’s it. I was looking forward to going to that for like EVER and I got sick. PoP, can we plan a redo? Doesn’t need to involve free drinks or anything, just a central meeting spot that the folks who missed out can go to meet up?

  • Prince Of Petworth

@Mal I’ll be doing another cleanup I think in Dec. and I’ll have a PoP happy hour after the holidays in the new year!

  • Rant: PoP has not published any of my comments for the past month, yet publishes almost every time white people say stupid/dumb mess about blacks/natives/latinos/other immigrants.

Rave: It’s Friday and I have a lot of events about to go down. Get this money folks!!

  • Rave: Punkin Chunkin and Dogfish brewery this weekend! And great weather for both.

Rant: Behind on a bunch of things at work, sort of over ‘work’ in general…

  • What is it with all these mass shootings lately – Ft Hood, now an office building in Orlando and all the other killings of entire families, households. I just don’t get it – WTF is going on? Makes me sad today.

  • Rant: Mr. Squid and I have been in foul moods lately and now we get to add his parents to the mix this weekend. Bah, humbug.

Rave: Had the dogs groomed yesterday and they make me smile whenever I see them, the groomed look is just not their style.

  • Rave: Big family visit this weekend – child labor for unloading a carload of mulch and rocks for my yard!

Rant: I’d like them to have a little fun too, but my razor scooter broke on their last visit and I can’t find anyone to repair it. (Tried City Bikes already) Anyone know where I might take it? The front wheel fell off and I don’t think we have all the bits.

  • I am tired of all the anti-bike folks who complain about bikers going through stop signs, red lights. They act as if they have NEVER jaywalked, NEVER rolled through a stop sign, NEVER taken an illegal right on red….people in glass houses ought to avoid throwing stones….

  • Rant in reply to “a neighbor says”: I WISH the bikes around here went through stop signs and red lights. That would mean they were actually on the road instead of barrelling down the sidewalk through crowds of people.

Rave: The weather man says it will be a beautiful weekend!

  • Rave – Meeting sister and her husband for drinks at the Sofitel bar tonight. Can’t wait. I was planning on eating leftover chicken thighs and now I don’t have to. Instead I can eat alcohol.
Rave 2 – Visiting St. Mary’s county on Sunday to visit with my mother. She has loads of Halloween candy that I can raid-sweet!
Rave 3 – I already started my Christmas shopping and I got my boyfriend exactly what he wanted and I’m on budget! This is going to be a great holiday season for me.
Rave 4 – I had three interviews last week and I received two job offers!-not that I needed a job I just wanted some more money. Everything is going great for me.

  • Rant: 16th St. NW along the park is crazy. There’s a cop at every intersection and the ramp from military road appears to be blocked by cruisers. Anyone know what’s going on? I saw a grounded military helicopter near the ball fields and a few military members standing at attention. Is Obama visiting Rock Creek Park?

  • not sure if this is a rant or a rave yet: Maryland bar exam results come out in 22 minutes. I am a wreck.

rave: I am taking myself out to dinner immediately after finding out, while waiting for my friend to get off work and buy me celebration/consolation drinks.

  • update: I passed!!!

I am feeling shockingly calm, all things considered, which is good because I am at a terminal at a public library and so making a scene is probably not ok.

  • Congratulations.

  • Congrats [email protected]:12!

Formstone Bar – Your attitude is contagious 🙂 love it!

@Victoria – you might wanna call Rollin’ Cycles – ask in advance if they can. They seem like they’d be able to fix anything! (202) 351-9410‎ and they’re at 1320 14th Street NW

  • [email protected]:12 – making a joyful scene is alway o.k. – Congratulations! (Assuming you’re planning to be the good kind of lawyer. . .)

R&R both – food shopping for and making up beds for 8 is a lot of work, but how fortunate I am to have beds for 8! Whoever invented aerobeds should get the Nobel prize!

  • @anon 4:03 obama was at walter reed. there is a gate off 16th. just past those ball fields

  • Rant: I don’t like places that serve cheap beer. I don’t eat pizza, it’s nasty. I don’t play pool. I like low couches, dim lights, martinis and latin jazz. You’re hipster, I’m bougie. Sue me.

Rave: It’s Friday and I have not one damn thing planned for the weekend. YAY!

  • @SingLikeSassy – Check out Wisdom on Pennsylvania right near the Potomac Ave metro. It’s like an Eastern European love nest with dark lighting, cool music, curtained alcoves, and great drinks. My only critique is the food Especially since the last outing’s Haut Dogs didn’t agree with me. The only time it’s been busy has been on quiz nights but everyone’s been pleasant and the waiter is pretty darn good. Check it out!
