I noticed today that a bunch of new murals went up on Porter Street Klingle Road. They look great. Here are just a couple:

  • hasn’t that mural been there since I was in 5th grade? or are you saying they extended it or something? Haven’t been down porter in awhile but there has been a mural there forever.

  • 2nded. Was going to say ‘what happened to the old ones?’ – there’s been a mural there since the last century.

  • That went up in like 89. They better not paint over it. Its a sweet mural. In fact POP you should document the mural in full. There is a cool “say no to drugs” portion.

Yes the murals have been there for a long time. New sections of the mural were painted.

  • This is on Klingle Rd., actually – it has been there (w/some touching up) since 1988:

  • They appear as aged as the rest of the mural. Maybe the artist attempted to make the new sections appear as weathered as the older ones? They look a little faded and dirty to be new.

Some panels are def. new. May seem faded because of the shadows. I’m not sure if you can tell but you can see in the first photo there is a sliver of red to the left which is an older panel than the one to the right with the statue of liberty. There were also a few new panels featuring row houses. All in all it’s a great work and I’m glad to see it touched up.

  • Enough with the murals, especially in places that have a natural, bucolic beauty in and of themselves. Creating murals for murals sake makes them culturally irrelevant and create false cover for poorly conceived urban settings.

  • Im gonna have to disagree with you Geezer. first off I like the juxtoposition of this mural against mother nature. Second: if this mural wasn’t here it would just be a tagged up concrete wall with piss stains on it. which is what it was before this mural went up.
