You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

  • Rant: Just got beat out on a great fixer-upper in CoHi by investors paying cash, and feel like I shouldn’t even bother with these properties because the same thing will happen every time. I know that tax advantages are supposed to help with this, but I wish priority could go to people actually planning on living in the house! Not that that would ever work…

    Revel: Um…it’s sunny out?

  • How miserable are the redskins. miserable.

  • @wannabe – keep trying! You’ll find one…although I gotta say, living in a fixer upper has some disadvantages. Mmmm, lead dust, yummy.

  • Rant: Little darling is still sick.
Rave: The sun is out, yay!

  • Rant: Some of my neighbors want Boxer Girl removed and have actually called a public meeting about it

Rave: Some of my neighbors want Boxer Girl to remain and will voice their support at said public meeting

  • Rave: Rediscovered Sonic Youth’s 1992 album “Goo” this weekend. Only took me 3 listens over 17 years to really appreciate it.

Rant: More confirmation that 99.9% of the stuff they call music today (rock, rap, country, whatever genre) is interchangeable, disposable crap.

  • short work week, with the long distance boyfriend coming into town wednesday night. im thinking he might actually live here by the end of the year!

i havent been this stoked about life since college 🙂

  • Rant: lots of stuff to do at home – cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping…

Rant: both knees are seriously injured, orthopedic surgeon doesn’t really know what’s wrong, if I’m still in pain in 2 months, I have to get arthroscopic surgery to remove a piece of bone that he *thinks* may be floating around. Can’t walk down stairs… or up stairs… Walking in general hurts. I’m only twenty freakin four and I’m not having knee problems because I’m overweight or anything, but having knee problems could lead to being overweight. WTF.

Any suggestions on the better indoor pools in DC? I’m closest to the Dunbar facility at 1301 New Jersey Ave, but the Marie Reed one wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to bike to…

  • Rant: We have a not too friendly visitor in our house that we can’t get rid of….. arrrgghhh…

Rave: Called a professional again today and hopefully they can come out today…

  • @petworth newbie- Thanks! I’m going to keep at it…was optimistic about the fixer upper (although yeah, renovations can be ugh) because I kept getting beat out on move-in ready condos by other first time homebuyers rushing to get the tax credit. Apparently I just can’t win! But hopefully something will come up soon…there’s certainly plenty out there.

  • Rave: Had bookclub last night and made a big super yummy lasagna and now have a lot left over for dinner.

Rant: eating too much wheat make me sick sick sick…what the heck am I going to do w/ all that left over lasagna.

Pool person: I love the Tk Pk pool and there is a bus that goes right there.

  • Pools: IMO Turkey Thicket (near Brookland metro) is better than Takoma but not as good as Wilson.

Anon: what is boxer girl? And should I be for or against?

  • Anon @12:41

That neighborhand organization reminds me of a homeowners association I had when living in the ‘burbs. Depressing. But can the neighborhood actually do anything about Boxer Girl, anyway?

  • I want Boxer Girl to stay! Again, I so dislike “community” groups ganging up and telling people what they can and cannot do based on what the “community” (as expressed by this relatively small group) thinks is “pretty” or an “eyesore”. Weeks back I warned when discussing the nillboards near 3rd or 4th and P that it is a slippery slope when groups start dictating what is and isn’t acceptable, and people thought that was hyperbole, but here we are! Another misguided crusade…

  • I googled Boxer Girl and instead found a store that sells sexy boxer style lingerie… much more exciting than the mural…

  • Rant: The apartment next door to me got bedbugs, and I spent two weeks spraying, and cleaning, and spraying. First inspection says I’m still safe, but they my landlord says that they have to do several treatments. People, stop bringing in the secondhand furniture you find on Craigslist!

Rave: The fountains were turned on again at Meridian Hill park.

  • Why doesn’t PoP have one of those little pictures that show up next to the URL on my browser? What do you call those little things anyway? All I know is, PoP is one of the few blogs I have bookmarked that doesn’t have one. Instead, there is a little blank page.

Boxer Girl photo I took a while back:

  • Prince Of Petworth

@Eric B – There will be one in 2 weeks. Hold tight!

  • Rant: I want to scream from the rooftops after reading Washington Post’s expose on Aids funding in DC. It doesn’t surprise me after living here for a while but it sickens me to the core. I wish Fenty would actually hold DC employees accountable for their actions.

  • Rant: Tried out Thai Tannic II the other night. Was happy to see it was pretty crowded, but both my entree (Red Curry Chicken) and my companion’s (Pad Thai) were bad — they lacked flavor. Was hoping to pick up takeout at least weekly from this place, but now not likely. Any better experiences?

  • Rave: Despite the miserable cold rainy weather that nixed the plans to get married outdoors, our indoor wedding was cozy and beautiful!! After months of raw nerves and anxious planning about how everything would go, on the actual day we were calm and happy – it was fantastic, we had so much fun 🙂

  • Rave: I volunteered for the Dupont Circle House Tour on Sunday. A great free way to get into some houses and see how the other half lives. The party afterwards had food so good it would make you slap your momma.

Rant: After standing on my feet for half of the day I can barely walk.

  • Rave: I love the crisp autumn air. The autumn leaves strike a cord.

Rant: All the rain revealed a massive leak in my roof at my place in Maryland, ugh, many thousands needed for roof replacement, I guess the time has come, wish I had done it sooner, now the cost is way up due to all the interior work that needs to happen to fix the damage…..know any trustworthy and inexpensive good roofers and drywall guys looking for work?

  • Rave: petwrothres…..awwwwwww

Rave: The Wilson pool is out of this world fabulous. I can’t believe sunday was the first time I went.

Rave: decided to go swimming instead of watching the skins game. Good decision!

  • ? With all this rain, watched Marry Poppins with the kids on Saturday. Im starting to find julie andrews sexy. Not sure how i feel about that. Of course now I have the frikin chim chimminey song in my head. which is not sexy.

  • @eric b, it’s a favicon.

  • rg,
me and the kids watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks this weekend and now I’m thinking Angela Lansbury has got it going on! Though Mary Poppins is much hotter.

  • rant- super sick. ready to go home and sleep

  • Rave: The hot daddy who played Captain Von Trapp
Rant: He was lip synching in the musical numbers
    Rave: Who cares?

(How did this thread suddenly turn into movie musical sexual fantasies?)

  • Rant: I was told that HPAP doesn’t have funding yet for this year. They say whether that’s true or not.
Rantier: They are supposed to cover our downpayment at the end of the month.
Rantiest: My lease is up at the end of the month.

  • Rant: Orkin billed me for coming to spray for bugs. They never came. They never called. Will be disputing. Why am I not surprised…

Rave: Not that long left in the semester, all things considered.

  • Additional Rant: Baseball is now preempting House. Is the season over yet???

  • @JustMe, thanks for the vocab!
@PoP, Nice! It’s the little things in life.

  • Rant: Somone’s Rave? Around 11:44 or so, one lone gun shot somewhere in Petworth. Then sirens, and helicopters. Please tell me something that I don’t already know.

  • @Katie-
I cancelled my Orkin service this year after using them for 4 years. The service was fine for the first 3 years. My first two techs were great. Both had been with the company for many years. But the service went appreciably downhill this past year when they reassigned the second tech. There were a number of supposed visits by various techs when I wasn’t home where I was billed for work they did outside the house. When I tried to reschedule to get someone to come in the house, the tech never showed up. It seemed to me that they were really not that interested in keeping my business, so I took it away from them.
