Rowhouse Fire on 4th Street Between Upshur and Varnum

photo, originally uploaded by Prince of Petworth.

Big DCFD turnout on this one. Lots of smoke out the window of a rowhouse. It doesn’t appear there were any injuries but will update as more details become available. Emergency vehicles responded approximately 10pm Tues. evening.

  • No injuries, but the whole block is a bit shaken. I came home to firetrucks racing past me up my street and the fire already under control. Seems the second floor of a rowhouse mid-way down the 4200 block caught fire. We had fire trucks from Petworth, Columbia Heights, and Mt Pleasant responding (thanks DCFD!)

    I have more photos here:

  • Yes, since it was a few doors down from me I was a little scared, as I think the firefolk had to go through my neighbors’ to put it out–which they appeared to do very quickly. Seemed to be mostly contained back room of upstairs, but don’t know for sure, and wonder what the cause was… I did local emergency response work for Red Cross in the past, so it brought back some tough memories, also for my housemate, who survived a fire at a previous abode in relatively recent past. I hear folks picking up glass through my windows right now (evening after). Very, very glad for the news of no injuries. An echo of thanks to DCFD!
