Dear PoP – Did Julia Child Live in Georgetown?

Meryl Streep as Julia Child, originally uploaded by eatwellguide.

It seems that there is a resurgence in interest in Julia Child’s life.

“Dear PoP,

I had heard that Julia Child used to live in Georgetown. Any idea where she lived?”

I found a picture of her house on a Web site called The Humble Gourmand here. You have to click on the small photo to enlarge it. But here’s a google street view:

I could see the number 2706 and did another google search and found out that it is located at 2706 Olive Street, NW:

So is anyone going to see the movie?

  • Wasn’t she a spy? I guess she lived in DC around that time.

  • The Georgetown address is explained easily enough. Julia Child was an international op. with Chuck Barris. He killed foreign agents and she baked ’em into meat pies. He later wrote a book about it, something like Confessions of a Dangerous Barber of Fleet Street…?

  • No Way! Julia Rocks!

  • there is a resurgence in Julia Child’s life = she is a zombie

  • Prince Of Petworth

Hahaha. Oops, meant a resurgence in interest!

  • LOTS of people in DC knew her husband Paul. When I was a kid almost all my parents friends had met him in meetings or at the Paris state department because people were going there after the war and in the beginning of the cold war.

  • she did indeed live on olive street, and the story goes that when the house burned down, she threw her shoes out of the window first because it was so hard to find her size.

  • Anyone else yet SICK of Julia Child?

  • It didn’t burn down; it’s still there!

  • She was a Smithie – yay Smith College!

  • I heart Julia. Going to see the movie just because…I like that her friends saw the screening and said ‘Julia wouldn’t have liked it.’ And that she read the blog/book and wasn’t too fond of that either.

  • Thanks so much!

  • I saw the movie and recommend it to frequent big budget (compared to many AFI or E street shown films) movie goer. Meryl Streep played Julia wonderfully and her character is just loveable but aside from that there isn’t too much to go crazy for. Make sure you have planned somewhere to eat afterwards because you WILL be hungry!

  • I lived in the house for about a year recently and every once in a while we would get a knock on the door by people curious to see the house where Julia lived.
