    Rave 1:
Had a nice ride thru RockCreek, Cresent Trails, Georgetown trails, Hains point and other DC spots. Working on Cadence was able to beat my previous best times and miles.
    Previous = 20-22 miles in 2 hours 15 min.
New Times = 29 miles in 2 hours 13 minutes.

7 more miles in 3 less minutes.

Since my road bike was out of commision I did it all on my damn mountain bike (double the weight n effort). Lost time on the always jam pack Cresent trails and joggers/bikers riding 2 to 3 wide ๐Ÿ™

    Rant 1:
Was happy cleaning my garage/basement, but I was cleaning it up because my Motorbike race season has prematurly come to an end. ๐Ÿ™ So I cleared a passage to store them ๐Ÿ™ .

    Rave 2:
Since no more racing for 2009, I can focus more on my bicycling and get prepaired to teach my spin class…yeah !

    Rant 2:
    Id rather be racing ๐Ÿ™

    and on the impulsive note:

Met a biker chick…went out on two dates visiting cool DC spots and ended the night at PHO 14….. (14th and Park Road)

The next day I ask her to move in with me ๐Ÿ™ WTH???

I sadly had to explain to her that I got caught up in the moment of happy life in DC , the fun we had, and her laif back gothic/emo nature. In the heat of the moment…with sheer impulsivness I sent her the text message saying “You should move in with me”

    WTF Von?????

  • Rave: Going to the Dogfish Head Brewery in DE was awesome, great people, great beer

Rant: Delaware would be a miserable place to live

  • Rant: Metro’s NextBus service is utterly f*cking useless, when the next bus that the system says is arriving whizzes past the bus stop with a Not In Service sign lit up on the front of it. I thought they shut it down for 18 months to fix problems like this. It worked better 18 months ago!

Then again, when doesn’t Metro disappoint? Sadly, the state of the Red Line over the past few weeks has put me back behind the wheel of my car for the foreseeable future.

  • Rant: another 4 days of working w/ crazy people
Rave: this thurs night, I head to the mother land for vacation for 15 whole days! great wine and food, mountains and ocean, and a little snow and sand boarding. Who could want more?!

  • Rave: The mid-80-degree weather! ๐Ÿ™‚
Rant: The humidity is creeping back up again.

    Rave: Countdown to Germany – T-minus 26 days! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Rant: as much as i have to say that i love public transportation, I have the “scheduled maintenance” announcements on weekends. if there is a need for scheduled maintenance then they should be able to figure out how to adopt the time table with close to no disruption. The more “scheduled maintenance” weekends I experience the more i think that they are just an easy excuse for poor management.

  • Rant: Poor (Financially) Poor Pitiful Me!, Hate this job, Bike is making odd noises, Still waiting to hear back from grad school.

Rave: Learning to live poor has reintroduced me to my college lifestyle of cheap beer, junk food, biking everywhere and playing video games, My lady gets back this week.

  • @vonstallin – congrats on the bike ride! That’s awesome! Sorry to hear about the outburst of emotion – I hope she took it well when you explained it to her!

What’s with all the vacation people! I want to go on vacation! Just making me jealous ๐Ÿ˜›

Rave/rant: nice weekend in north jerz with the family/grandfather’s still in the hospital ๐Ÿ™ but he’s in very good spirits and making the nurses laugh

Rave: parents bought a house in NC! I get to use it when they aren’t there slash renting it out!

Rant: back to another work week – it’s not the work that’s bad, it’s the waking up early that’s bad! Whoever “invented” the thought that a 6 or 7 am wake up time was a good idea was seriously delusional!

  • Rant: I continue to write cover letters and apply for jobs, like it’s my… job. The business manager at my old school won’t reply to my email about where the 300 dollars I’m owed in reimbursements is. At least I still get paid until August.

Rave: Feeding squirrels: http://scottahb.wordpress.com/2009/07/12/teh-animalz/ Also, I went to the Campus Progress national conference last week and discovered I can be good at networking if I have to. It’s still weird to me, though.

  • Rant: I have 17 days left of work (including today…) which is about 16.5 too many.

Rave: Harry Potter with bffs, date night, friday off

  • Rave: another nice Sunday afternoon at the parks (Meridian Hill and Girard Street for the wee one).

Random query: saw two guys in Meridian Hill Park doing some kind of acrobatic mock fighting. Sort of like slo-mo tandem katas, with handstands and controlled roundhouse kicks and whatnot. Is this ringing any bells? Can anyone tell me what they were up to?

  • WDC: Sounds like capoiera (spelling?) It is of Brazilian origin.

  • It may also be a type of Korean interpretive dance, but I forget the name of it.

  • @WDC: Capeoira

Rant: I made a pirate flag for a good friend of mine only for her to have it stolen off their RV at the AllGood festival this weekend. F$*%ers. I told her if she finds it, she has permission to go up to them and punch them in the face. Reward for a 3’x5′ handsewn Jack Rackham linen flag with ties cut off.

Rave: Friends coming to visit this weekend!

Rant2: Peeled wallpaper in the guest bathroom only to discover a mess underneath and it has to be cleaned up by this weekend.

  • Vonstallin

    Mal Says:

    Thanks man !

  • Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that was brought from African slaves. The instrument you saw played there is called berimbau and the whole stage is called Roda.

  • Rant: I hate my chair. It hurts. I’ve tried about 10 different chairs by now, I hate them all. And I have to sit in it for another month until I finish writing this book, so please keep posting your fun adventures so I can enjoy them vicariously.

And neither rant nor rave, just an observation seen a lot this past lovely weekend, (though probably a rave to some) girls, when you walk around in clingy little jersy dresses with a thong underneath and the fabric gets stuck in your butt crack – do you not feel it?

  • @victoriam – YES we do!?! I never understood these women who walk around like that! Maybe they’re looking for an opportune moment to pick the wedge, but I for one would rather pull the dress than walk around like that. I saw a woman around the verizon center last week like that. I wanted to pull the dress for her!

  • Rave: This weekend I got to play 7 games of soccer! We lost most of them, but it was still tons of fun!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Rant: I got sunburnt and it stings ๐Ÿ™ also my body hates me so to make up for it, I ate a bowl of chinese food and chased it with an entire medium sized pepperoni pizza!

Rant/Rave: I got trapped in a teeny tiny elevator for about half an hour, shoulder to shoulder with 6 other people on Friday. It was actually kind of fun and while it was starting to get pretty hot in there and someone farted, all 7 of us were friends, at various stages of drunkeness and we were shortly rescued by some nice firemen. Secretly I had always kind of wondered what it would be like, now I know!

  • Rave 1: I’m moving to a nice apartment with a great roommate this coming weekend!

Rave 2: In preparation for the move, I’ve managed to pare down my posessions to about 2/3 of their original volume!

Rant: I don’t know where to donate the books/clothes/dishes I’m ready to part with! Any suggestions? (If it helps, I’m a 6 foot tall, average-sized male and I like reading academic texts related to the social sciences… oh, and how did I end up with a deviled egg platter?)

  • @Dave T,
There is a goodwill on South Dakota Ave near the entrance ramp to merge onto NY Ave and I think libraries take book donations.

  • @Dave T
You can definitely drop the books off at the Petworth library (at Georgia & Kansas) — just bring them by, and across the street there’s a clothes drop box at the corner of 9th & Varnum, right by El Torogoz.
And on that same block, there’s a little resale shop, which isn’t really a charity or anything, but it’s my best guess for what you could do with your deviled egg platter while getting rid of everything in a 1-block area.

  • “propper topper” in georgetown at p st and wisconsin ave. are collecting baby, child and adult clothes at their store. they do this annually.

  • Rave: Went to a great BBQ this weekend.
Rave 2: Listened to Obama’s speech in Africa. Man, can the guy speak.
Rave 3: Met this incredible girl recently. I don’t believe in marriage. But she is as close as I could ever get to believing in it.

  • You can also drop off donations at the AmVets on Georgia and Oglethorpe (is it Oglethorpe???….on the right handside going north on GA Ave right after you pass the police station). they give receipts.

  • Rave: Week # 2 of rehab

Rant: If Federal Goverment workers on coke are the best celebrities DC can offer, I am soooo out of there

  • Rave: Weekend house/dog/cat/garden sitting: house on the side of a mountain, deck on porch, hot tub on deck on porch under the stars = bliss. Also picked 109 cucurbits (cukes, squash, zuccchini) from the garden (only brought home a small portion of that).

Rant: Came home and found someone broke my tree, tearing off about 1/3 of it. I think the tree will survive but grrrrrr.

    More from Von:

I was sitting out side work this morning enjoying my Marble Chocolate Chip muffin and Diet Dr Pepper when some Monkey ass dude decided to sit near me (outside HUD office) smoking… It put suck a sour taste in my mouth as i breathed in the 2nd hand smoke of his. Im mad because all the smokers ignore the no smoking zone. ๐Ÿ™

    I wish cigarets cost $25 a stick…

  • Rave #3 of the day: Resourceful Petworthians. Thanks for the suggestions on where to donate my stuff!

  • RANT: a good friend of mine’s unit was attacked today in Iraq. he is safe but 7 of his soldiers (he is an officer) and his translator were hurt. October cannot come fast enough.

  • That is bad Clearwater. I think they should all get out of that country. War is over.

  • Rave: Went biking in rock creek this past weekend! Trimmed some of the small branches from neighbors tree that were hanging into our drive way.

Rant: Only 3.5 weeks into security clearance process for new job. The waiting is so agonizing as I am miserable at current job. I have been with current company + 9 years and have accomplished what I set out to do and itโ€™s no longer a challenge for me.

Rant 2: Some giant douche (or possibly a turd sandwich) keeps using my name to post stupid comments on this site. I think I am going to have to start using anonymous.

  • Rave: Engaged!:)

  • Rave: US clinches group B in Gold Cup
Rant: Buying books for grad school this fall

  • Rave: went to the b-boy/b-girl breakdancing competition on Friday at St. Stephen’s in Columbia Heights (took the photo). If you ever doubted that breakin’ was still alive, doubt no more. It is alive and well! I was thoroughly impressed by the talent and enthusiasm of all the dancer’s there. Truly an art!

Rant: went to Target on Sunday afternoon. Why? That is NEVER a good idea. Everyone and their mom in DC is there and half the stuff is broken.

  • Rant & Rave in one —

The Rant part — Petworth Fireworks
The people on my street that spend the time organizing the Petworth fireworks and blockparty couldn’t bother themselves with any clean up afterwords. There is trash all over our street and in our yards. I don’t attend this event but don’t mind that it goes on…but do I really have to clean up after all the people that come to dance and all the trash from the fireworks? really?

    The Rave Part —
DC crew came by today to clean up the streets. they didn’t do a great job but they did relieve me of my dilemma of cleaning up after a party that I don’t attend. my yard by the road had a ton of trash and they picked up a good portion of it. They didn’t do a very good job cleaning the streets of all the litter from the fireworks though. but I am glad they did it at all!!
