House of the Day

Can’t remember if I’ve posted this one before but it’s very striking because it’s the only one I’ve ever seen that has an extension in the front of the house.

  • There’s one like that on Webster between Rock Creek Church and 3rd (not sure which block). It’s been closed in with siding rather than brick though.

  • That can’t be legal. Prob built c. 1990 when the city couldn’t tie its shoes or enforce any laws.

  • There’s no reason it “couldn’t be legal.” It’s not a historic area, so you could probably get a permit and do that to your house today; even with the weird Petworth plots where your front lawn is “public space, everything from your front steps and back is your property. And look at some of the stuff we’ve seen on PoP that went up WITH a permit.

Even though you can see on the columns where the newer brick starts, the “newer” brick looks to have been there more than 20 years. I bet that work happened in the 60’s.

  • The house of the day you literally posted LAST WEEK had a extension on the front of the house.

@RD good call. good call. I still think it’s pretty rare though in my experiences.
