You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

  • Rant: retail. I remember Macy’s as a nice place to shop, but encountered lackluster employees, run-down surroundings, poor quality merchandise, and a crazy-high price for gift wrapping! I guess the web really is going to replace bricks-and-mortar stores. Bad news for our downtowns.

  • Rant: Ongoing construction in upstairs unit is driving me batty. Plus – could someone tell me what time is legal to start loud construction in a rental? – they begin at 7am and even on some Sundays!!! I need to move. ASAP.

Rave: Nothing yet. But no news is good news (or something along those lines)….

And WDC – I agree about Macy’s – which is why I haven’t shopped there in over 3 years.

  • Rant: I really, really don’t like my job, but the pay and bennies are excellent, and I’m the major breadwinner for my family, so I’m feeling rather stuck. The nice weather only makes the stuck feeling all the more painful. I feel like I’m dying inside.

  • Rave: Moved out and FREE of my stupid smelly roommate

Rant: spent 40 extra minutes on the metro this AM in addition to the hour and half its now going to take me to come in from vienna thanks to the orange line clusterfuck (thanks! for the welcome back gift!), my computer at work completely died and every single letter to congress on my desk is in an envelope i have to open.

  • Rant: Jury duty this morning started at 8:00

    Rave: It’s 1:30 and I’ve been excused!

  • I moved out of Columbia Heights and could not have had a better send off to make me sure I made the right choice. I had people trying to steal my stuff out of the back of the truck and had my girlfriend followed up to my empty apartment by two creeps who once they saw her in the elevator decided not to get off on the floor they had pressed and I had to rush into the building to intervene. But, when I got to my new neighborhood. I met 5 neighbors while moving in and had all of them welcome me to the block and offer to help me move my stuff in 🙂

  • Rave: Moving today, and all of my first period class passed their final exam! Most got Bs or above, and I thought I had made a pretty difficult test.

Rant: My roommate allowed the guy replacing me to move his stuff in without my permission and trashed the kitchen, so now I have twice as much to move around so I can get completely out.

  • Hey Anonny –

It’s 7 am- 6 pm Monday through Saturday. they’re not allowed to work at all on Sunday, unless the laws have changed since 2006/2007. I know this because I used to live in the West End right near all of those new condos/office buildings that were being constructed and had the joy of waking up at 7 am on Saturday mornings, but my one respite was Sundays. I know there’s some authority you can get in touch with to complain, but I’m sorry to say I can’t remember which one.

My rant: My new dryer died the first time I tried to use it and now I’m fighting with new landlord to get someone over to come fix it. They were supposed to call this morning, but clearly that’s not working out.

Rave: What a beautiful weekend with great weather. Really enjoying my new place’s roofdeck with the best views of the city I’ve ever seen 🙂

  • department of consumer & regulatory affairs oversees construction work hours. After hours permits are prohibited for residential construction. You can complain to DCRA or try your ANC.

  • Rant: Real World DC being more than just talk… or so DCist.com says.

Rave: This weather is stunning! And I’m having a great hair day as a result 🙂

Rant: The humidity won’t stay like this for long….

  • Rave: School is out on June 4th! Hooray!!!

Rant: Then I have write report cards 🙁

  • Rant: A/C hasn’t been working all season.
Related: Landlord has completely incommunicado for months now.

  • To the crazy bitch on California and 18th who shouted at me and my mother to “get off your street” just because you think think that the streets and america somehow belong to you – thanks for being so incredibly racist and rude and super-entitled. Your racist vitriol has been noted and I will be sure to tell all my friends about you and your husband. And for trying to get your husband to physically intimidate us – as if!- (while we were taking our evening walk), merci beaucoup! I should have called the cops on both of you. You and your husband should be ashamed of yourselves for your verbal abuse on me and my mother and shame on your husband for thinking he can take on 2 defenseless females. Plus you must be extra insane to point out where you live (as part of your racist invitation to come over and weed for you). Always good to know where the enemy lies…Thanks for that.

And we wonder why there is so much racial tension in these newly gentrified areas. My eyes have truly been opened tonight.

I really hope you read this crazy “California Street” lady, but honestly, I don’t think you are enlightened enough to be a PoP reader.
