New Forum Topics and a “Random Question”

“Dear PoP,

I know you like to point out cool home items including security grills for window, and I am in a search for one for a basement window. I want something unique and that doesn’t scream “PRISON!”… any idea or ideas from readers about where to get one??

I’ve googled it but it seems like most are out of state/country… :)”

Can anyone recommend a good security grill company?

From the forum:

Has anyone recently resided the back of their house and had a good experience with a contractor?

Does anyone have any recommendations for contractors/companies that do concrete (parking) pads?

  • An off topic but still home improvement related question…. Does anyone know anything about getting a roof top deck built in DC. How much are permits? Is it a big hassle to get approval from the city for one in Columbia Heights?

With a camera, take a slow weekend walk down Mass Avenue (Embassy Row), then on another weekend through old Georgetown and find a design you like.

Then clear your throat and call Paul at Suburban Welding in Alexandria at (703) 765-9344.

    From The Intowner Newspaper:

Paul Ponzelli has been the owner of Suburban Welding Company located in Alexandria, Virginia for 39 years. He is a Gold member of NOMMA (National Ornamental And Miscellaneous Metals Association) and a member of the American Welding Society. He has contributed to articles published in Welding and Ironworking as well as Time-Life publications and the Washington Post magazine.

Prior to forming his own company, he had been a welding instructor training apprentice ironworkers and working in a large forge and foundry. His company provides a full line of ironwork and welding services, including repairing original cast iron staircases.

  • Northeast Ironworks Inc, over on Douglas St NE. Open to any design for window grates, very reasonable pricing.

As for contractors, I have found a gem… Robert and Sons Painting Co (originally painters- and wonderful painters at that- but also do beautiful contract work and carpentry). Absolute best contractor I’ve had, and they’re about to finish work on my home over two weeks early.
