Reader Submitted Photo Quiz

Well this one stumped me. But I thought this was a super cool photo. A reader was curious if anyone could guess where it is. At the next PoP happy hour, I’ll give a free t-shirt to the first one who gets it.

  • Looks like the building beside the metro/amtrak tracks between Silver Spring and Takoma. That would make it . . . uh . . . on EW Highway? Eh. I don’t think it has that walkway thing though.

  • SW DC near the railroad tracks/395?

SG is close but you’re gonna have to be more specific than that!

  • It is just north of union station, by north cap between mass and H ne

  • looks like 901 D Street SW

IMGoph wins – it’s from the Department of Energy Building

  • I thought the same as IMGoph, but a day late. Regardless, Pop, you need more challenging photos – this one took less than a hour from post to win.

@Wayan Or the readers are just very very good.

Are these the controversial railroad tracks that carry hazardous materials through the District?

  • Nah, Philippe Lecheval, I think it’s the VRE tracks. Could be wrong though.

  • Dan,
The actual name of this building is the “Aerospace Building.” I already have a t-shirt, but I would gladly add an oxford gray POP t-shirt 😉

  • The VRE trains use them, as do all other trains. I took another picture from the DOE roof last Thursday and it shows a long line of mixed industrial freight cars further down those tracks. When I lived in SW, chlorine tank cars were a common sight.

  • Tracks by LEnfant Plaza – VRE and Amtrak use them

  • Holy crap, I actually work in this building! It is indeed the Aerospace Building, but it is primarily for the offices of the Administration for Children and Families, and NOT the Energy Building (theyre across the street).
And the tracks run right next to my office…VRE trains and non-commuter trains with all sorts of shipments….

  • Matt G, some people call those freight trains. 🙂

  • I do not think it is a photo of a real place, but a photo of a scale model someplace in DC.
