You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. Anything good happen this week?

  • Rant: well, here goes opening up a huge can of worms – BUT I cannot stand obese/overweight people who have handicapped parking stickers. Honestly – lose the damn wieght, lose the side effects of high blood pressure, diabetes, poor circulation and park in a regular parking space and save the spaces for those who really need them!

Revel: Wow -that felt good and it’s Friday

  • RANT: Ok. So, the city plants trees on 14th and Newton Streets, NW. Guess what? Out of 8 trees planted, 3 were dead.

    RAVE: ……

  • Rant: Its freakin’humid as a mo’ fo’

Rave: 1 more week at my lame job!

  • Rave: Had an awesome time in NYC last weekend with some friends from back home…
Rant: Dislocated my kneecap and sprained my knee while dancing at bar xii in nyc, was on crutches for the beginning of the week but the orthopedist took me off them and gave me a better knee brace. (seriously, i have so much sympathy for people on crutches now)
Rave: Got a reserved parking space on base so I don’t have to hobble a half a mile to my office from the other parking lot
Rave: Going camping in the poconos this weekend with like a thousand (literally) russians
Rant: It’s supposed to rain all weekend 🙁
Rave: It’s Friday and I’m busyyyy!

  • yes mike k!

this is my last full week of work for a while, and the beginning of all of my planned summer fun!!

  • if you ask me fat people should be forced to park in the farthest parking spot there is. The walk would do them good.

  • mike k, even worse than that, i hate fat people in the metro, because not only do they move slow and present a larger obstacle for walking around them, but they also have to walk with their arms swinging out at least a foot from their bodies. seriously, do you have to flail your arms about when you walk?

    it’s friday…there’s my rave.

  • So, after my bedbug fiasco in Tivoli Gardens apartments on 14th and Otis I think I’m going to pull the trigger tomorrow and sign a lease for a cool little spot in Trinidad right by Gallaudet. I think It’s time for a change of scenery…

    It’s Friday!

  • RANT: People on this blog who have the audacity to comment on other people’s weight. I wonder if you would have the guts to do so if this was an in-person forum instead of online. I bet not.

RAVE: How lucky I am to have amazing people in my life (some of whom are overweight).

  • @AJL don’t sweat it – people who make snap judgements without knowing anyone are everywhere in DC its not worth worrying about it. And you are right not one them has the guts to say it in public.

  • Rant: Fat people on the Metro who also carry ginormous purses/bags/etc. and swing them around knocking people over like there was tons of space around them. Rude!

    Rave: Polite, fat people.

  • Rant: nothing in particular

Rave: Reading about how people are annoyed with fat people for various reasons…..and then having people get upset at them. Makes for some great reading!

  • saf

Wow, nice to know that fat hate is alive and well in my neighborhood. Hope I never meet those folks in person because I don’t want to listen to that crap in person. And so

Rant: idiots who think they know who I am and why my body is as it is simply from looking at me.

Rave: It’s Friday, the weather is nice, and I have baseball tickets for tonight – GO NATS!

  • I’d happily say the same — in person — to anyone who behaves so inconsiderately. It’s not enough that they’re a horrible drain on society, that they haven’t any shame in driving up responsible people’s healthcare costs, but they also see nothing wrong with going out of their way to make the problem worse by eschewing a longer walk.

Society is a sick place because of people who pretend that serious health concerns like obesity are just something to be tolerated or even respected. These people have no respect for themselves or their fellow citizens and should be ashamed. Mike K is quite right.

And we spell it “judgment” on this side of the pond, guy.

  • I have to admit that I don’t like it when a fat person sits down next to me on the bus or metro and squishes me all up against the wall. If you can’t fit in the one seat, then you should stand.

  • RAVE (BIG BIG RAVE): Hearing Rumors that a bike co-op is coming to Petworth!!!!!!!

    Other RAVE: See above!

  • Rave: After 8 years I finally gave my heart to someone!

Rant: After 6 and a half months he broke it.

  • Rant: ugly skinny people who assume the skinny makes up for the ugly.
    Rave: rhododendrons!

  • Rant: Nothing! I’m a happy camper.

Rave: I’m gettin’ some more weed tonight!!!!

  • Rant: Can people stop shooting each other, please?

You know I may be opening a can of worms here… but there have been 2 shootings this week in my neighborhood. They’ve both been before midnight right around the corner from me. What can I do to protect myself?

  • Rave: lack of sports blather on PoP, minus the occasional reference to high school wrestling

Rant: Nats Fri. fireworks — not a blanket condemnation, but EXTREMELY LOUD to adjoining neighborhoods. Nats think I should tell my toddler to get over the rude awakening and support the team.

  • Rant: I cannot concentrate on ANYTHING work-related. Nor have I been able to all week. I just DON’T CARE!

Rave: My place of work is featured in the ‘Caption’ contest. Our sign and flowers, at least.
Rave 2: No bosses this week, so b/c I cannot concentrate I plan on leaving early!
Rave3: Participating in the Washington Post scavenger hunt this weekend!

  • Rant: Stray cats keep on having kittens, no matter how many we trap and get fixed. So, does anyone want to foster some kittens? 4 kittens, about 8 weeks old, from near Upshur/7th…they need to be taught to like people, then hopefully can get adopted!

  • Rave: After being in/around DC for decades, I’ve finally seen my first celebrity. Ran into Charles Krauthammer outside of Mortons and he asked me to get the door for him. Seemed like a nice guy. Not every day you meet a Pulitzer Prize winner.

Then a few minutes ago I saw David Brooks. 19th and L NW is definitely a good people-watching spot.

  • Rave #2: I’ll be leaving the country in 3 weeks for a lengthy vacation.

Rant: I don’t have an overseas work permit so I have to come back here.

Rant#2: People in the office (and in general) who do not cover their mouths when they cough. Jerks.

  • No grand opening for Italian Pizza Kitchen today. It doesn’t even look close to opening yet.

  • Rant: Twinks

    Rave: Bears

  • Rave: It was Bike to Work Day and I biked to work. I am wearing my bike to work day
    t-shirt proudly.

    Rant: None really worth mentioning

  • Rant: 1. Random Reader Rant and/or Revel- I’ve been waiting all week to rant on this blog. 2. People who schedule 8 am meetings on a Friday. 3. There is not enough police presence and it appears that someone is try to revitalize the open air drug market on 4th and Delafield, new thugs all dressed the same on the corners. Yes a bike cop biked around in circles the other day but that’s not enough. Happily the neighborhood has been coming out on their porches and street so hopefully this will make it less appealing. 4. Another used condom in my driveway this morning. 5. I’m over achieving at work but I am bored out of my mind and have lost all interest and the desire to work at all this week.

Rave: Good lunch workout today and my rose bush is full of beautiful flowers.

  • Rant: The Washington Post says a 21 year old man was shot and killed near the Convention Center last night – he’s from Petworth, the 4800 block of Kansas Ave NW.

  • rave consumed an entire bag of nutter butters.

  • Rant: entire blog consumed by nutty betters.

    Rave: Friday!

  • Rant: I haven’t won the Powerball yet

    Rave: There’s always tomorrow:)

  • Rave: Just learned I won a free round of Botox at my dermatologist office…saved $500+.

    Rant: i am so frick’n superficial…

  • Rant: The fact that Naomi is right – The drug corner of 4th and Delafield is up and running again. I wish the pocket of rental units in that area were razed to the ground…

Rave: My homebrew beer is almost ready for drinking!

  • Rave: The end of my Ph.D. is in sight!

Rave2: I even have a job lined up for after grauduation!

    Rave3: It’s in the Netherlands!

Rave4: My boyfriend can come with me and get a visa even though we’re not married because the Dutch are more forward thinking about domestic partnerships than the US will ever be.

    Rave5: I have 4 Raves!!!!!!!!

  • Rant: Everyone in my office is married/getting married. I just threw a wedding shower and i know I will go to at least 3 more before I leave in August. It makes me feel like a failed heterosexual as the only single person over the age of 18 and under the age of widow.

Rant2: I have so much to do for a special project at work that I havent dont my regular duties. Guess thats what sunday will be for.

    Rave: Overtime

  • Rant: Cop brass who keep talking about how much they care about Petworth but continue to allow drug dealing and other crimes to go on unchecked. Stop telling us how much you care — show it by doing a little law enforcement now and then.

Rave: There are signs of life on Georgia Ave. Now if we could get just one decent bar somewhere between Kansas and Kennedy.

  • Rant: I don’t know if just the 62/63 bus line or not, but someone needs to crack down on reckless bus drivers. The way some of those guys go barreling up Kansas and 5th you’d think there was free beer at the end of the line.

Rant: If you’re gonna ride the bus, please wash first.

Rave: People who wash before they get on the bus.

I live right at 4th and Emerson. Then i’ll just have to go buy my weed elsewhere. See you still haven’t solved the problem.
I used to get my weed delivered b4 the guy went incognito. That would partially solve the problem. But just the pizza and carryout delivery guys, someone would rob them.

  • rant: having to drive half a block at midnight to go to the CH CVS so i wouldn’t have to risk getting mugged.

    rave: CH

Yes I have…you used the word ‘elsewhere’. Therefore its not in front of my house. Done and done.

But is it really only weed? Well, then I actually dont care…

  • Was someone shot outside the CH metro last night? I’m hearing this thirdhand from a friend and I don’t know where else to check for confirmation.

  • Yep, a 19 y/o shot in the head and killed at 14th and columbia. There was also a gunfight in Adams morgan at kalorama and Champlain. 2 MPD officers shot and injured, but it sounds like they were able to return fire and kill the shooter.

there was also some jerk-off on a mini-bike firing off a 9mm at 12th and Decatur [maybe it was delafield] last night. MPD was out picking up casings and looking for a victim. Not sure if anyone was hit. Oh and a stolen car crashed, ejecting and killing the driver somewhere else in 4d. Good times… Good times.
