PoP/NCHCA Clean Up A Great Success

It was awesome to see so many folks out. Folks from all over DC. It was great to see the Social folks as well. It’s nice to see businesses get involved in these types of events. The picture above is from just one of the pick up spots so we put a good dent in! But more importantly were all the folks from the neighborhood who saw us walking around. I know my little clean up group of three had lots of people thank us for our efforts. I think this is just as important as the actual clean up. So thanks again for all who made the effort to come out. Next month we should have a hundred people! For a little more than one hour it is a great statement to make! Next month is Mt. Pleasant – stay tuned for details.

  • I want to add my thanks as well. Let’s also take extra vigilant steps to try to keep our neighborhoods clean and to mention something to folks we see just dropping litter on the street.

NCHCA will be starting monthly clean-ups in conjunction with the monthly Tivoli North business association clean-ups, beginning with the July clean-up. Third Saturday of every month, so mark your calendars now!

Also please mark your calendars for the July 1st 7:00 NCHCA meeting. We should have a very big guest speaker if all works out; I will confirm soon. Thanks.

  • Thanks to everyone who organized this event. I had a lot of fun cleaning up the community, and, like the post said, many people thanked us for what we were doing.

I do have one comment and suggestion. Our group decided to designate one bag for recyclables. When we came back to the park, we were informed that it didn’t matter we had separated recyclables and that it was all going to the same place. Feeling defeated, we just had to throw the bag with the rest of the trash. Is there any way to organize recycling and trash pick up at the next clean up? Picking up trash is great, but it’s pretty lousy that we couldn’t recycle.

Thanks again! Looking forward to next month.

  • i think a lady from last months petworth clean up took all of the recyclables home with her. is there a recycling center that is open to public use in dc? the dump facility near catholic is pretty easy to get in and out of, but usually our house has more recycling than actual trash, and it would be great to be able to haul that off myself!

columbia heights clean up was great! we definitely had a few people ask about our group, and of course we spread the word about the all mighty prince of petworth! i felt like some religion peddler 🙂

  • it was a great effort and i definitely got some props from passer-bys. perhaps we could get somebody to subsidize some t-shirts to reinforce that it is a community organized event and make it more visible.
