True Story Becomes Morgan’s on 18th Street, NW

Remember the discussion we had about the signage for the bar True Story? It looks like that debate has become moot. I thought I was losing my mind for a second, when I couldn’t find the storefront. Alas, the spot was painted over and given a new name. Anyone check out the new spot yet?

  • I haven’t checked it out, but you can’t keep changing your name and calling yourself a new “spot.” Alas, it’s still a small, plain bar in Adams Morgan.

  • Yikes. It’s like they’re throwing things against the wall to see what sticks. I wish them the best in these tough times! Maybe they need to renovate the place and change the concept?

  • I believe this crappy old place recently changed hands. I heard a rumor that the owner had the crap beat out of him by some drunken patron one night a few months ago, and then he decided to sell it the next day.

  • Why do people give bars boring eponymous handles? Morgan’s? Really? Yawn.

Listen, I know “Cheers” is taken, and “The Third Half” is pretty much reserved for sports bars, but can’t bar proprietors at least TRY to be a little creative? Read the history of the neighborhood or something. SOMETHING!

  • “Read the history of the neighborhood or something.”

Actually, where Perry’s is used to be named Morgan’s way back in the early 1980’s. It was a gay bar and had a good run for a good number of years. Have no idea if the owners of the current Morgans know any of that history.
