Looking For A Good Tailor?

I seem to recall folks asking about where they can find a good tailor. Well I recently received the following note:

“Lee’s Alterations & Tailoring is awesome. We’ve had three items tailored there and the guy does a great job, has reasonable prices and quick turnaround time. I highly recommend him. We don’t use J’s Petworth Cleaners for our dry cleaning, so not sure about them, but as far as hemming pants or any other tailoring services Lee’s Alterations & Tailoring, located within J’s Petworth Cleaners at 3934 Georgia Avenue, NW, is great.”

  • when he first opened he did a rush hem job for me. I needed the pants for a party that night. I was very pleased

  • I agree! His turn-around time is great, he can do same day tailoring and it’s always very good quality!

  • I have to give props to a different Lee’s—the one at 15th and L St., NW. I had two dresses altered there (including one bridesmaid’s dress that needed to be let out—notoriously difficult), and they came out perfectly. My boyfriend got expensive wool suit pants hemmed there at the last minute, and was also very happy.

For women’s dresses, the labor prices are not extremely cheap, but the handiwork is good—and really, that’s what counts. If you can’t wear it, what’s the point?

EXCELLENT! thanks for the heads up! I’ve been looking for a neighborhood tailor, cannot believe georgetown cleaners across from Tivoli Giant charged me $18 to hem a pair of jeans and $12 for regular trousers. And the soonest I could get them back was 5 work days later after 5pm.

  • Could someone give some examples of pricing for this tailor?

  • Anyone know what time Lee’s on Georgia Ave. closes? I can’t find them online. No answer at the dry cleaner’s.
