Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Friday. So anything good happen to you this week?

  • I had a great dinner at Napa1015 on H Street last night. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t been (sadly the place was pretty empty, but we were there early).

On the down side I discovered my first gray hairs this week. I guess now I have to start thinking about my burial plot and epitaph.

  • Saw–no, experienced– Monotonix at DC9 last night. Craziest freaking show I’ve seen in years. Absolutely ridiculous. It made my year.

  • springroadintoaction: In a word: yes. That was off the reservation.

  • I’m still full from Matchbox last night.

  • I stayed out late last night–went to the Red Derby’s birthday bash. Was one of only a handful of people left at closing.

What happens at the Derby, stays at the Derby.

  • feeling a little violated, someone used my credit card number to buy tickets to an amusement park in california yesterday.

  • i just ate a turkey wrap with too much advocado (all of which i thought i had scraped off)… now i think i may vomit.

let me just declare right now that there will be no advocados in my post economic collapse crop sharing venture.

  • mmmmmmm……..avocado

  • I saw last night that, I think, a Julias Empanadas is opening on Georgia Ave next to Sheridan. Out of Petworth, but still noteworthy.

  • @ACameron-

That really sucks. I work for an online retailer and you would be surprised how many fraudulent orders we get. I have become a master at spotting them even before I see the cc info. If it had been me at the amusement park those rascals wouldn’t have stood a chance.

I got some wonderful news about my mother this week so I have been feeling pretty good. I am thankful for the miracle of modern medicine.

  • I’m out in a swing state on the campaign trail right now (Democrats, of course) and I was just checking in because I miss my hood! Hope all is well and that Sweet Mango Cafe will have their awesome jerk chicken, red beans and rice, and cabbage waiting for me when I get back in November…yum!!!

  • I just stepped outside to run to the bank and it really feels like Fall weather out there, finally. I was glad I had my jacket with me for the first time this season.

  • Avocado is great in moderation, but, like LSD, you don’t want to eat it more than a couple of times a week.

  • One of my best friends from back home moved to DC yesterday (like drove 12 hours and is now staying at my house) and I took her to the Derby festivities and showed her around. Sasha, Dave and the crew were so cool that I think it may have been the best introduction to a city ever. I am sure the free drinks and sweet hats helped too:)

  • Oh, and they mentioned the Derby in The Express today.

  • PoP – I registered for the forum and would like to post something, but I’m still told: Your account is currently inactive, the administrator of the board will need to activate it before you can log in.

Anything I can do to be activated?

Also, anyone else at that United game last night? Incredible stuff.

  • Prince Of Petworth

tj please email me your user name ([email protected])

  • Rant – I’m so hungover that it feels like a clidesdale stepped and then shat on my head and then stepped on it again.

Revel – My Hangover is a result of one the most rediculously bacchanal evenings I have experienced in some time, the Derby and its patrons never fail to amaze me… lets hope I survive the weekend.

  • when people call you asking you questions, favors, etc and they don’t bother to say goodbye before they hang up, what is up with that? Is ending a call with a clear “ok, goodbye” so hard?

stretched very thin this past week and this week coming! iieeeee!!!!

  • another rant- when your gchat pal steals your headline and post it on pop as their own sentiment. this is especially annoying when youre already ill with that pal because your tummy hurts from the advocado laden wrap leftovers that she gave you.

  • I just ate a delicious gyro, I won tickets to NSO at Kennedy Center and it is Friday. I just wish my lover was here…

  • …..I quietly hate the weekends. Mon-Thurs, I’m a work-a-holic, then when Friday rolls around I cringe at the thought of the weekends. Weekends used to be fun, but lately all weekends are for me is, maybe drinking too much, being mugged, or assaulted…then back to Mondays. Maybe I just don’t like it here. I like your blog though :).

  • I was at work today and my boss called in sick, yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • rants: during a ridiculous meeting at work I missed a phone call from the man friend who is training for special forces and gets very limited access to communication.

raves: there is only 2 hours left of the day, i’m going to the parentals for free dinner and laundry tonight and my roommate is out of town for two weeks so i have the place to myself

  • Rave: my brother is coming tomorrow with my two nephews, and taking his girlfriend out to dinner so I get the babies all to myself!!

  • I think there should be another PoP happy hour, at the Derby. If PoP doesn’t want to be in charge, maybe some of us Derby enthusiasts (“Red Heads”?) can just pick a night to get together and go.

  • Prince Of Petworth

There will definitely be another PoP happy hour at the Derby but the next big PoP event is the two year anniversary party Nov. 13th at Wonderland. Should be pretty fun.

  • PoP, where are you selling your tshirts and do you ever carry XL?

  • I like poo poo.

  • Prince Of Petworth

I’ll have XL of the new order that should arrive in the next week or so. You can get one at the two year anniversary party Nov. 13 at Wonderland or just email me directly.

  • Rant – I lost one of my favorite earrings and my doctor told me I need to lose 20 pounds (which would take me to a weight I haven’t been since I had dengue fever).

Rave – My basement is painted and it looks great, it only took 20 minutes to get a replacement driver’s license, and an opportunity for a work trip that includes the Maldives came up today.

  • Saw Kenny Garrett at Blues Alley this evening. It was an amazing show. The bass guitarist rocked my socks off.

  • Christopher, why in the world do you keep calling “avocados” “advocados”?

    That’s my random rant.
