The sign said this band was playing at the opening of a new liquor store back in the day. It really doesn’t get any better than that.  “Music by Kentucky’s Famous Troubadors”.

  • am i reading this correctly? they used to celebrate the opening of liqour stores in mt. pleasant? lol!!!

  • That is Jimmy Dean on accordion and (presumably) lead vocals.. Not the actor-young’uns-the singer/sausage guy

  • Actually Reuben, Jimmy Dean the actor/sausage and singer guy are all the same guy. Jimmy Dean used to have a very popular TV show here in DC called Town and Country Time – Roy Clark and Patsy Cline got there start with Jimmy Dean as well. DC was a major market for country music back in the day.
And who can forget Jimmy Deans great turn as Willard Whyte in Bond’s “Diamonds Are Forever”?

And that sausage…yes that sausage, lovely, lovely sausage.

  • I think Reuben meant to distinguish that guy from the late James Dean, rebel without a cause, ya know.

  • Oh, I see. I always think of him (East of Eden , Giant, Rebel) as James Dean. But it is a common mistake, i.e. David Essex “Rock On”.
Two very different cats, for sure.

  • Am I the only person here who is sad that Jimmy Dean Sausage actually dropped Jimmy Dean as its spokesperson?

  • I didn’t think most of you were old enough to remember Jimmy Dean’s musical incarnation-hence the sausage reference…. Sorry.

  • Mt. Pleasant had a lot of KY and VA transplants back in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, so country music was popular. The laundromat next to Don Jaime’s on MtP Street used to be a country & western bar. Name, anyone? Anyone?? 😉
