  • The smaller flowers are portulaca (moss rose) – it’s a great heat and drought resistant annual.

  • Given that we now live in a tropical climate thanks to global warming, these are no longer an annual. Mine come back strong every year.

  • moss roses are not perennials per se–they are just very good at re-seeding themselves, which is why yours probably come back year after year.

  • Way back where I come from (Iowa) we call them Morning Glories because they only bloom in the morning and close up by the heat of midday. From what I remember they are super prolific and wind up spreading themselves everywhere, which can be nice, until they take over your yard. Ours came back every year.
