Why is There a Drain Here?

I thought it was odd that there was a drain on the top of this retaining wall. The surface area is not very large. Am I missing something here or is that a very odd spot for a drain?

  • Doesn’t look like a drain to me, it looks like some kind of service access. Like maybe there’s a valve in there that they reach with one of those T-shaped wrenches.

  • You can see a bit of PVC below this cap. The PVC tube extends down to the house’s sewer pipe that extends to the city sewer pipe. It can provide handy access in the case of clogs requiring a plumber’s assistance. This lid pictured is a notably sensitive treatment; the developer ahead of my purchase stuck the pipe up about 6″ above the lawn and slapped an ugly white PVC fitting over it.
