And all these years I thought pineapples grew underground. Reminds me of the time I found out sardines were actually a fish and not a vegetable.

  • these are on sale for $6.40 at the home depot on GA ave. in aspen hil, MD (near Rockville).

  • When I was a kid, I used to think tuna were tiny, can-sized fish, f’real. I didn’t know they were really as big as a Buick.

  • My old boss told me that until she was about 25, she though that penguins were the same height, if not larger, than men. She’d only seen them on TV up to that point, with no frame of reference.

  • Went to the Dole plantation in Hawaii once and saw pineapples growing for the very first time. I thought it was so cool how it looks like someone just plopped the fruit down on top of the plant.

  • That’s cool. You can grow them yourself, by cutting off the top of a pineapple and then putting it in a dish of water until it sprouts roots or something. It takes the patience of Job, because the whole process takes about 1000 years, but it can be done.

  • Wow.. gotta try that! Recently saw a wild pineapple in Brazil.. very very cute, the whole fruit was about 3 inches tall.

  • Oh and Mz. Lady.. goes to show bosses did not necessarily become bosses because they are super smart… 😀

  • Mz. Lady.. I thought the same for a very long time. I thought surely, those penguins at the aquarium were not representative of the REAL emperor penguins of the north! Somewhere there were tall, regal (haha)l penguins, lording it over the snow. Man I was so disappointed.

That pineapple plant is funny looking though. I’d always assumed trees!

  • Penguins of the North?! You need to pay better attention at the zoo Sheepy. That’s like asking why can’t polar bears just eat penguins, instead of chasing after seals all day.

  • Fonzy: Polar bears are well-known vegetarians, I don’t know what you’re talking about.
