So Sad But A Bit Funny Too

Some of these tags are very upsetting but I couldn’t help but laugh at this one because I choose to believe it says Reko Sings. And the thought of Reko singing is funny. But again, it’s not quite clear why there are quotation marks here…

  • i think i read somewhere that the quotes were used by SERIOUS graffitti ARTISTS. this just looks like a simple tag, so i don’t get the quotes.

  • pervasive tagging is a blight on our community and should not be tolerated. i don’t find it funny at all.

  • . . . and I think it says ‘Reko Sims’

  • Or for a different take, see The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks, an absolutely hilarious catalog of misplaced or misused marks. We grammar geeks love it.

  • The quotes were originally hash marks, but generally only ran in one pair, but have been basterdized over time and become meaningless (arrows had meaning too, you’d never point the arrow at your own name).

Tags are an ancient from of expression that predate and will be around for ever. Most “serious artists” began life as taggers. It’s how you get your name out, and create an identity. It’s part of the joy of the urban fabric. People reclaiming the space for their own. I wouldn’t want to live in a place that didn’t have it.

  • Also, I think it says “Reko Sime” That’s pretty much exactly how I make my capital E’s.

  • Thank you Christopher for being the only person who can see that it says Reko Sime.
