Is It A Little Early For Feliz Navidad?

When should Christmas lights go up? And for that matter when should they come down?

  • They put those up the first Christmas they moved in. They never take them down.

At least they only turn them on during Christmastime.

And on your question – mine go up Thanksgiving weekend and come down the day after 12th night.

  • Christmas lights should never go up in the first place! They’re a waste of energy, especially those power hog with the whole house covered in lights and displays with animatronics and that frigging musc playing. Bah, humbug!

  • I’m sure you waste power in your own way, Guy Mondo. And just for your bitching, I’m putting up an extra strand and leaving them on for an extra hour.

And I second what saf said. They are up year round. I don’t quite get why people do that, but hey, to each his own.

  • Just sing along. You know you want to. ..

Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad
    Prospero año y Felicidad

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas
From the bottom of my heart

  • Well, considering there was a huge, puffy, animated Christmas display up at Giant in SEPTEMBER, I guess it’s never too early in Columbia Heights.

  • Does anyone remember which date Festivus is celebrated? 😉

  • Festivus – 23 Dec

  • According to Wikipedia, it wasn’t even something new when included in Seinfeld

Festivus is an annual holiday invented in 1966 by Reader’s Digest writer and editor Dan O’Keefe

  • those lights have been up for the entire 2 years that I have lived here.

  • It’s been many more than 2 years.

  • The Feliz Navidad house is also notable for the garden on the north side of their property, facing Randolph Street. Here they grow corn, tomatos, squash, plums, flowers and more.

Surely whatever waste those simple holiday lights caused, are offset by the energy saved by harvesting corn from one’s own yard.

  • Are you supposed to take holiday lights down?

  • I have lived across the street from these people for almost 4 years now, and they have always had them up. Everyone who comes over to my house comments on them…the good news is they only actually plug in the lights at Christmas. 🙂

  • They do have a lovely, huge garden. I’m jealous.

I’ve seen those lights and I remember last year literally (well, figuratively) counting down the days until they would turn them on. But last year I don’t remember them looking all that good. It seems like not all of the strands light up anymore.

  • love their garden. get a kick out of the lights. never seen them on in seven years. must walk by during christmas.
